BACKGROUND: This unusually well preserved ORIGINAL 1969 Thunderbird is owned by a good friend of mine, and former president of the Atlanta Vintage Thunderbirds Club International. He acquired it from a serious-minded collector who has had the car over 20 years. All evidence points to the odometer reading to be the ORIGINAL mileage of the car. We see NO evidence of any re-painting, body work, or interior work...everything appears just as it was in 1969 when the car left the famed Lincoln/Thunderbird plant in Wixom, Michigan. The car has a new brake master cylinder, and new tires. The elaborate 4-unit (2-mufflers and 2-resonators) factory-spec exhaust system is in place (Note: many of these cars have the incorrect exhaust system). The car drives beautifully...very strong and smooth. FoMoCo engineering on these cars - along with the companion Lincolns - was top notch. I personally own 1969 Lincoln Mark III which shares a lot of the engineering with this TBird...and they are BOTH among the best-built classic motorcars I have ever seen. Even the vacuum operated headlamps "hold" as they should when the car is off. It is evident throughout that the car has always been treated special and has been well cared for. Recently, $1000 was spent to fully check/restore the AC system and it works great. The tires are brand new. A car is only "original" once, and it would be very difficult to find a nicer original 4-door Landau than this truly rare example. The top is virtually like new and does not show any of the typical "bubbling" around the rear window...it is exactly as-new in fit. The upholstery and carpeting are convincing testimony that this is a low original mileage car. Workmanship and materials throughout are top-notch. Quite frankly, the car is built very much like a Lincoln...and Ford wanted that way...that's why ONLY Lincolns and Thunderbirds were built in the Wixom plant. Everything that I tested worked very well. The ONLY exceptions were the driver's door speaker and the clock. Probably the best aspect to investing in this 1969 classic is that they are just now being "discovered" by serious collectors, and will no doubt begin to appreciate considerably in value. That is the best time to invest in any classic - when it's still affordable! There is some very interesting original documentation for the car - which is shown at right and will be included in the sale. PAYMENT: Payment in full via Bank to Bank wire transfer is due within 7 days of the auction's end. This is the safest payment method for both the Seller and Buyer. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS...are welcome, but must observe the same PAYMENT guidelines as US bidders. International bidders are responsible for making all importation and transportation arrangements. The car can be held in safe storage for a reasonable period of time while arrangements are being made. Finally, every effort has been made to present the car as accurately as possible.
