Vehicle Detail
For sale, 'as is': Restore it, rebuild it, or part it out: (No Reserve!) Very nice 1983 Jaguar XJ-S (V-12) Coupe. Probably needs a new transmission (Definitely needs new tranny gaskets & seals.) Front-end suspension also needs attention. Additional photos on 'Car Gurus': (cargurus.com) The title is 'clear'. Five previous owners: Most original equipment remains intact. Repainted to a 'British Racing Green' from the original 'Claret' color. Paint is somewhat oxidized but can be buffed out (as seen in the photos at the lake.) Very small blemishes/chips in paint from normal usage; and a larger (1" x 1") paint-chip exists in a relatively small area between the rear window and the trunk (see photo). Front (leather) seats in good shape (no rips or tears in the leather - - but the stitching at the seams has deteriorated (thus, faux sheep-skin seat covers will come with the vehicle.) Rear seats are in excellent condition (with seams intact). There is a small (dime-sized) extruded dent on the forward passenger side of the bonnet (see photo with penny next to dent.) The A/C compressor is disconnected & inoperable, but the heater and blower have worked fine. Cruise-control appears to be intact but is not working. Speedometer/Odometer & Tachometer all work. Petrol gauge works. Water temperature gauge seems accurate. Oil pressure gauge works intermittently (probably a sending unit issue.) The brakes work very well, but the tires are worn and will soon need replacement. Vehicle is sold with the spare and jack. The V-12 engine is truly remarkable: While the Jag has hardly been 'properly maintained' nor pampered, the engine seems to stay tuned, starts without hesitation and runs smoothly, providing absolutely awesome excelleration! The fuel economy is also remarkable (particularly since the smog equipment has been disconnected and/or removed as unnecessary for Oregon emission standards imposed on an a vehicle of this age.) The last year's driving saw 17 MPG in town & 22 to 24 MPG on our mountainous highways! [On-line research for this model/year provides the following description: ENGINE: 12-Cylinder water-cooled aluminum-alloy 60-degree ‘V’ w/overhead camshafts (1 per 6-cylinder bank); ‘May “HE” (high-efficiency engine) w/ high-compression cylinder head; 3-plane 7 main-bearing crankshaft; Compression ratio=12.5:1; Displacement=326 cu. Inches (5345 cc); Digitally controlled electronic fuel injection & electric fuel pump; Fuel capacity=24 gallons (unleaded premium); Oil sump = 11 quarts.] SUSPENSION: Front independent, “anti-dive” geometry w/semi-trailing wishbones & coil springs; shock-absorbers & anti-sway bar; Rear: Independent w/drive-shafts forming upper links, radium arms, shock-absorbers w/coil springs & anti-sway bar. Incidentally, history tells us that shortly after its introduction in 1981, the XJ-S HE became the fastest automatic-transmission car in the world at 155 mph . . . winning both first and second place trophies at the Silverstone ‘Tourist Trophy Races” within 12-months. [The International Tourist Trophy is an award given by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) and awarded semi-annually to the winners of a 3,667-mile racing event each year in the United Kingdom. First awarded in 1905, it evidently continues to be awarded to this day, making it the longest lasting trophy in motorsports.] The Jag's front-end needs attention: The sway-bar, tie-rods, joints, bushings should be replaced. Parts said to be available on-line for under $300. The transmission (original GM 400 3-speed fully automatic w/overriding manual control; torque converter; Final Drive being of Independent Hypoid type w/limited-slip differential) should probably be rebuilt or replaced. Seals and gaskets currently leak. The vehicle has not been driven in approximately 6 months following signs of transmission slippage, leakage, and suspension problems; and the Oregon License tags have recently expired. Buyer must arrange transport to winch & haul or tow the car to its new home. Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE In sum, this is a beautifully designed, classic, fixer-upper that should ultimately reward its new owner with unparalleled pride and a most thrilling performance on the road! (If I had a son, the XJ-S would not be up for auction -- but as it turns out, I simply don't have the time to devote to hobbies at this point; and our HOA & CCRs prohibit auto work on premises. Bottom line is we now need the parking space for our other vehicles... So, good luck with the bidding & may the pleasure be yours!) THERE IS NO RESERVE! THE CAR WILL BE SOLD TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER - SO BID WITH CONFIDENCE! - SELLER WILL NOT WITHDRAW LISTING FOR ANY REASON! CALL WITH QUESTIONS: 541-944-5490 (MESSAGES WELCOME: RESPONSES MAY BE DELAYED DUE TO WORK SCHEDULE.) THANKS FOR LOOKING, FOR BIDDING, . . . AND MAY GOOD LUCK BE YOURS! Please Note: The winner of the auction must arrange for shipping and transport of the vehicle within 2 weeks of close of auction.
