Vehicle Detail
Very Rare, very low mileage, S10EV. Only about 50 remain in private ownership, the rest were crushed along with the EV1s. The S10EV has an 85kw, 114 hp three-phase, liquid-cooled AC induction motor. This one is still a lead-acid (PbA) non-converted original specifications. It is possible to get new batteries that will fit the battery box, with a modification to the top of the battery box because the new batteries are slightly taller than the original ones. I didn't want to harm the original battery box top, and haven't had a chance to have a new top made, which wouldn't be a huge project but I would have to find somebody who could do it. The original batteries are gone, except for one remaining one. It would also need a new 12V auxiliary battery. The original tires still hold air, but obviously are too old to drive on. The body of course is in pristine condition, and the interior is excellent too. It basically needs new batteries, and I never decided where to get them. I had somebody who would have given me an excellent deal, but they were too far away from me in Florida. I also have the Magne Charger, a set of manuals (reproduction not original), and a convenience 120V charger. I have the original S10EV owner's manual. The front charging port was replaced in 2005 with an NOS one. I still have the original one too. I have the receipt for the repair also. Basically it needs somebody who can put some time and 26 batteries plus the 12V auxiliary battery and get it back on the road. People who own these trucks love them, with many still going but mostly in California. Here in Florida I haven't been able to get much help. Soon, with the direction gasoline prices are going, this may be one of the few vehicles on the road. I purchased this truck several years ago, but then ended up converting a Prius because the State of Florida had an incentive which paid half the price of the conversion. After that I never got the time or the incentive to make progress with the truck. I have additional photos that I can email. I can also help to arrange shipping if the purchaser needs any help. On Mar-04-12 at 05:23:32 PST, seller added the following information: I wanted to add an update to the description in order to help people understand about the S10EV. It is a complex truck that is now 15 years old. The person who designed the electronics and other equipment was and is a genius, but he did things his way, which might not be the most simple way. It might not be the way it would be done now, 15 years later. The batteries are a key component to the truck, and for whatever reason Panasonic will not make them for the North American market. This makes getting the truck running again much more complicated. There are ways to overcome this limitation, and excellent batteries that should work just as well, or possibly even better, than the original Panasonic EV1260 battery. It might be possible to get the Panasonic batteries from Japan. But you might have to make a new battery box to accommodate different batteries. There are some excellent choices for new batteries that should work. You might have to modify the truck, either cutting into the bed of the truck or putting a tilting bed kit on. After you put the batteries in, there might (or might not) be more diagnosis needed. Some have asked about the A/C. I don't know if it works or not. It is questionable after this period of time sitting. I can live without A/C. Others might not be able to. There are other items, such as the kerosene heater, which may not work. I was going to remove that anyway as in my opinion that is not necessary either. Others might consider it essential. I want to make sure that whoever is bidding understands the truck. You will have to enjoy the journey of getting it running again almost as much as actually having the truck running. It would probably be possible to pay somebody to troubleshoot the truck, but I never considered it. With the eBay agreement, a bid becomes binding when it is the winning bid. With the eBay agreement, you are supposed to be making an offer to buy, but if for some reason you decide you'd like to retract your bid, just notify me and it will be done. If you make a bid and walk away, your bid is still considered open and it is possible you could win the auction, even if there are several higher bidders. I can remove bids as I choose in the auction, but obviously hope that won't be necessary. It is a historic vehicle. I am hoping and want to make sure that whoever is bidding and winning shares these views and will be very happy with the truck.
