Vehicle Detail

Hello and welcome to my auction. I have here a Epilogue Edition or also know as the extremely rare Triple Black 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible. I have been searching for 15 years for the triple black and this car was aquired for my personal collection but I am expanding my Volkswagen Convertible restoration business and offering this wonderful piece of German history. There were thousands of convertibles built and there are plenty of the run of the mill everyday beetles ,super beetles and convertibles that are out there to purchase . There was very few "Rare" beetle convertibles and this is one of the most rarest and most desirable being there was only one offered per dealership in 1979- 1980 and there was only 657 dealerships in the mid 90's so I can assume there less then 800 back then. This was the very last year of the classic beetle convertible built. I am not sure the exact amount of these little gems were produced but it is somewhere between 700 to 800 and if you compare that to the Champagne edition where there were 2 per dealership you can see this is a rare beetle. Now I have seen ordinary super beetles that someone has painted black and put on a black convertible top , door panels and seat covers and paraded as it a true triple black only to find out after looking behind the dash or behind the insulation in the engine compartment that it was painted white or whatever other color other then black. This car was video taped prior to being repainted and it's original Paint sticker with the L 0 40 and the Vin has to be past 1592029000 which it does and the "Schwarz" original paper paint code tag is clearly visible an the under hood area is still original and never painted and in excellent condition. I didn't want to disturb these authenticating items . I will also sign an affidavit stating this is a real triple black super beetle and if a birth certificate is ordered it will also show that it is the real deal triple black . Just to touch on a few other items before we dive into the car ,it still has it's original Le Mertz rims ,it's clock and wood grain dash inserts and spare tire. Okay, Now if your asking what makes the triple blacks so desirable? Why am I making such a big deal about it? So I'll explain it. After 31 years of uninterrupted production on January 31,1980 the beetle convertible was no more and out of mourning these Epilogue Editions were all dressed all in black as if they were going to a funeral and for the millions of heartbroken beetle owners it was truely a sad day and no dealership could order more then one and some have even put the cars away and were never even offered to the public. So in a nutshell this is looked at by many as the rarest beetle ever produced and one of the hardest to find and all triple blacks were made in the very last days of production. This one was one of the very late built and very well could be one of the last. Because of the sun and fun and California being such a large state with the most dealerships the last one's were sold in California . I make no guarantees that this is the last one but it could be. Below I'll explain what I'm offering and it will be your decision to bid and how much to bid and I do not and will not ever offer another one again in any condition as it is to difficult to find them . For example I was on the hunt for one in Santa Cruz 2 years ago and it had been hit in the front right corner and it had been pushed into the gas tank and hit hard enough to crack the windshield and the guy wanted $4,500.00 for it and would not budge and he ended up selling it a week later . I ended up walking away disappointed but glad I didn't buy a wrecked vehicle . Again the beetle that I'm offering was video taped and pictured before any work being done and there is no Rust in the body and never hit or any accidents what so ever with it's original front and rear aprons and all original German sheet metal to this car. I run One of One Volkswagen Cabriolet Restoration here in Paso Robles California and I have already went back over the whole body and fixed a few minor dings and scratches ,stripped the car of the old paint and used top of the line primers ,sealers and it's original hard to find "Schwarz" paint which has actually been discontinued and I had to find it by cross referencing a different year. The interior ,carpet , seats ,door panels, sun visors are all new .The interior was in fair condition for a low mileage beetle but not to the conditon this car deserves so they were replaced. The headrests are original to the car and the spare tire is also original to the car with the thin line white wall. After replacing the interior and minor body work and repainting the car I rebuilt the original engine with new heads ,rings, barring ,cam, lifters and is turn key ready and has all it's original fuel injection with a brand new air flow meter, manifold boot ,distributor, cap , rotors and wires and new injectors . The transmission shifted flawlessly and was not messed with but we did put a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout barring and the brakes were also gone back through with new lines, master cylinder and shoes. While we were at it we checked all the steering it is in great condition with no flop or play . Next ,We put a brand new convertible top with brand new headliner and padding with all the bells and whistles, rubbers, tension cord etc. The tires are new and everything that should work is working , such as lights and windshield wipers etc. Okay, Now that we have gone through all of the discription I encourage all to check out my feedback and look at other cars other triple blacks that are being offered and see the condition and see what they are offering and selling for . I think you will see I am extremely fair and quite honest with my descriptions .I am offering this just how your seeing it as is . There will be no additional services such as delivery anywhere and the only thing I will be responsible for after the sale is making sure the car is properly stored and it is in running condition to go on the trailer and once it leaves my property on an as is sale that is it and that is the way it should be . Now with that said I am willing to sell the car with a top to bottom inspection and restoration with all the small items replaced brand new such as door weather stripping, tail light lenses ,new bumpers, new struts and shocks, new tie rods and any and everything it may need or may not need. I will also go back over the paint and improving any imperfections that may exist bring it to a show and shine quality and guaranteeing the car for 3 months of any repairs of any mechinacial work for $13,900.00 you will receive pictures and video all the way through.I have done this several times and my buyers love it and the get to see the car come alive. I normally use it more on color combinations as in building a beetle to their likes but this one is pretty straight forward black, black, black. The car would be ready in roughly 2 weeks in plenty of time for spring and ready to be shipped to you. Now this is only an option and is for those who want the car as close to showroom quaitly as it can get but you are more then welcome to bid on the car and tinker with the small items that I have not gotten to . Please do not get me wrong it doesn't need everything replaced and the bumpers are in good condition with only one scratch but this is for one that wants it .The car is located in beautiful wine country of Paso Robles at my shop.I can add a buy it now for any buyer that wants the full restoration. Terms: Depending on buyer wanting full restoration half of winning bid is due within 72 hours of auction end . If no restoration is included full payment due within 72 hours or 3 days of auctions end by bank wire transfer or bank certified funds over nighted by Fed Ex or Ups . No personal checks or money orders please. I will accept some payment by paypal but all fee's are at buyers expense. On Feb-19-12 at 15:28:14 PST, seller added the following information: I wanted to let everyone know that I've had trouble loading my pictures and video and I don't know why they are not loading . I am trying as we speak to get better pictures. I hope nobody thinks this car is going to sell for pennies. I have seen and there is currently 2 triple blacks on 2 different online sites that are not even close to as good as condition as this one is in with ripped tops and aging interior that are for sale for $9,500.00 and $12,900.00 . I would think with new paint less then a month old,new interior just out of the box last week and new convertible top installed a day before the ad was put on and not to mention rebuilt engine that this car would be going for a lot more even with these pictures. There is probably between $1,000 and $1,500.00 worth of small items that would make this car a $15,000.00 to $20,000.00 car all day long if not more. $13,900.00 fully restored is a steal when a unrestored in fair condition scratches, dings ,rips etc are asking $12,900.00 and $9,500.00 respectfully . I guess if it doesn't hit my reserve I will just spend the money and a little time and relist it with a $15,000.00 buy it now .Be the first to drive this car since restored without worring who has spilt stuff on the carpet, smoked in it etc. Thank you On Feb-20-12 at 18:41:32 PST, seller added the following information: Hello I have decided to open up the bidding and remove my already fair reserve and allow everyone a chance to bid and own this rare gem. Also the mileage is 33,000 and some change and not 50,000. I didnt notice I had incorrectly put in the miles
