I’m selling a mint and highly sought after 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 40th Anniversary edition with LOCKERS and only 79K miles – possibly the best super-low mileage example in the country. This is the last year of the renowned FZJ-80’s and being the 40th Anniversary and Antique Sage color (only available with the 40th Anniversary editions) it is arguably the most desirable FZJ-80 model made. Additionally, with this one having the optional lockers (factory electronic locking front and rear differentials) it makes it the rarest of the rare. It has only 79K miles (average of only ~5K/year) and this is well documented in vehicle history with consistent mileage reporting throughout its life unlike some sold/listed lately with only one or two dated mileage status reports – and this one has accident free history as well. I bought this car at the start of the year for the only reason that I am a Land Cruiser fan (I own a 1971 FJ55 and a 1990 FJ62) and was literally the first person to see this once it was for sale – if you see a mint, 79K mile, locked 40th Anniversary available and have the funds on hand, you buy it and worry about what you’re going to do with it later. I had planned to keep it for a long time as a collectable/investment as you will see below with all the money I immediately spent on maintenance and upgrades but have now decided to sell and focus on my other two – namely giving my FJ55 the garage back. As you can see in the pictures below, this might be the cleanest 40th Anniversary edition out there. The car was undoubtedly garaged its life as the paint and clear-coat shine is remarkable. The car was even protected with an OEM Toyota hood wind/bug deflector so there no dents and bug marks in that prone area. The chrome around the grill shines like new and all “black pearl” emblems (featured exclusively on 40th Anniversary editions) look great. The paint and clear-coat shine is remarkable for a 1997 and although near perfect, there are a few minor flaws that I tried to picture below to make sure I point out even the smallest of paint imperfections. As pictured small scratch on rear tailgate and 2 on fender flare (each about 1-2” in size) and really only visible up close at certain angles but each properly touched up by previous owner with matching Toyota factory paint. As mentioned before this has an accident free history and validated with all of the original and matching Toyota VIN stickers present on body panels, doors, tailgate, etc. The pictures speak for themselves of how amazing the exterior looks. The interior is in excellent condition as well as you can see in the pictures. Most notably you will see the soft and crack-free driver’s leather seat – if you’ve shopped for Land Cruisers you know how this is a common problem area to have a cracked and worn driver’s seat leather. The other leather throughout is equally soft and crack-free and as the pictures show this truly looks and feels like a new car. Leather steering wheel is perfect as is the headliner. The car also includes the original 40th Anniversary floor mats in great shape – a rarity to have stayed with the car and be in such great shape. To maintain these mats for collector reasons I bought brand new OEM Toyota Land Cruiser floor mats (front and middle row) in matching Oak color and am including both with the sale (40th Anniversary mats pictured and also wrapped in plastic in cargo area). The car also includes third row seats that can fold down or be removed completely for extra cargo space and the optional running boards, roof rack, roof spoiler and sunroof deflector. Also included is the factory tow package with heavy duty tow bar and trailer wiring bracket. The car includes factory radio/tape/CD player and all other interior items work properly such as power seats, moonroof, heat works great, A/C blows cold (automatic climate control unlike all pre-97 FZJ-80’s), cruise control works, etc. Two sets of keys included as are factory owner’s manual plus all manual supplements (sunroof deflector brochure, black pearl emblem care brochure, owner’s manual supplement booklet, etc) and factory jack/tools. Mechanically this car is equally in excellent condition as upon purchase I had it serviced at both the dealership and then my local Land Cruiser specialist (J&M Toyota Techs in Fort Mill, SC) for a total of $1200 in work as I wanted to have anything that potentially needed upcoming maintenance to be addressed. Receipts included and work done included full service oil change/filter service, $600 alone in brake work, bulb and fluid replacements, replacing antenna mast with OEM mast (antenna works perfectly and can be adjusted with up and down buttons in car and fully retracts and extends – unlike some that don’t move or don’t retract all the way down upon turn off), etc. The engine pictured below is clean, dry and leak free and as a well maintained engine should appear (not power-washed and coated with Armor-All like some dealer ones I’ve seen on here recently). Also as pictured, no rust issues on the underside – another benefit to a garaged low mileage example. Beyond the excellent exterior/interior/mechanical condition of the vehicle, where this car really shows how like new it is – is simply in the smooth ride and drivability. Acceleration is smooth, shifting is smooth, steering is smooth, alignment is dead straight, interior is quiet and rattle free, etc – what this car was like when new. The Land Cruiser specialist also said it was the smoothest driving 80 he’d driven – 79K miles doesn’t hurt but even that needs a well maintained life to stay smooth and this is the one. These engines last forever and you’re essentially getting a barely broken in one in a timeless 1997 body style for a fraction of the cost of the near $80K new ones. I know the market for something like this and have seen what low mileage FZJ-80’s have sold for over the past few years (most recently a 95 w/ 65K sold for high $20K’s as have similar year/mileage ones consistently sold for over the past 2 years) – with this being the final year, a Land Cruiser (not LX450 – personal preference for Toyota badging), locked, 40th Anniversary and Antique Sage color it will take a strong offer but I’m open to listen. That said the reserve is reasonable given the rarity and I expect this will sell to the highest bidder. I’m located in Charlotte, NC and can work with the buyer to arrange pickup at the Charlotte airport if needed. If you are going to have the vehicle shipped I can work with you on pick-up arrangements there but shipping cost is obviously not included and is the buyer’s responsibility. I require a non-refundable deposit of $1000 via PayPal within 48 hours of auction end and remaining balance due within 7 days. Balance payable in cash, wire transfer, or acceptable and cleared bank cashier’s check. Once all funds are received and verified I will provide the title to the new owner.
