Up for sale is my 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible Malibu SS 396 project. This is a super solid project car and would be an easy restoration for someone with the time. The car has a lot of potential and is an excellent foundation for any direction you would want to take your build. I was going to restore this car to a traditional big block muscle car cruiser with a little ProTouring attitude mixed in. Due to time constraints and job requirements, I’m just not going to be able to get around to restoring this car any time soon. I know this car is not a real SS, but it is a well done clone. It has all of the right SS options, but not the right VIN number which to me doesn’t mean the car will be any less enjoyable. You basically will have a beautiful SS clone at a fraction of the cost of a real SS. Most people will not be able to tell the difference unless they research the VIN. This is a great starting point for a really nice muscle car project any way you want to take it. Since I just don’t have the time right now, I’m willing to let the car go to a nice home. The quarter panels and inner and outer rockers are original and solid. The cowl, firewall, door jambs, S.S. hood, deck lid, taillight panel, trunk weather strip lip, convertible boot well and top area, and inner and outer wheel wells are all incredibly solid. The car will need floor pan patches, but the transmission hump and tow boards are all incredibly solid. The front fenders are solid but will need lower patch panels which is pretty common area to repair. The driver’s side will need a new door skin and a little inner structure work, but both doors are incredibly solid, the passenger side door skin and the inner structures are in excellent condition. The trunk pan has been patched and is in solid driver quality condition. The convertible top frame is in excellent condition, it is straight, undamaged and solid. All of the factory power top components are present. At some point the previous owner had the body off of the frame and had the original frame painted chassis black. Trim and Glass: All of the glass is present in the car. The front windshield is cracked and will need to be replaced, but all of the side glass is in good driver quality condition. The window regulators are all present and in working condition. I believe I have all of the exterior and interior trim for the car. It is all in driver quality or restorable condition. The original front grill is on the car, but included in this auction is a new aftermarket SS grill in the box. Drive Trane: The motor is a 1968 model 396. I was told by the previous owner that it runs good, but I have never heard it run. The motor turns freely and is not locked up. I planned to rebuild it and freshen it up before I put the car back together. The transmission is a factory 2 speed power glide. The car is equipped with a factory 12 bolt rear end. I believe the gear ratio is a 2:73 or a 3:08. The car has factory power steering and all of the components are present. The car has a factory manual drum brake set up. All of the stock suspension components are present and in original condition including the factory SS 396 rear frame supports. Interior: The original back seat is present in the car and I have a set of bucket seats and an original center console that are included in this auction. The dash is in excellent original condition and has not been cut or modified in any way. I do not have the rear side trim panels. WHEELS AND TIRES PICTURED ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION.
