Vehicle Detail
1936 Dodge with a "Gar Wood" dump body. (For the history buff, Gar Wood was a famous speedboat racer and inventor in the 1920's and 1930's - He was kind of like the Howard Hughes of Speedboats. He is credited with inventing the hydrolic hoist for dump trucks and the development of the garbage truck. Check it out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gar_Wood. and http://www.garwood.com) I understand this particular model dump body was one of the originals used for unloading coal and the patent on the original tag dates back to 1919. The sides of the dump box fold down to create a flat bed with stake pockets for enclosing it with a stake bed. It also has a driver operated handle on the side to dump the load through the tailgate without leaving the cab. The truck appears to have been a Civilian Conservation Corps truck or a US Forestry Service truck based on the coloring and long faded logo on the doors. Does NOT run. The carb and other misc engine accessories are missing but the seat frames, guages, PTO and Hydrolics for the dump body are there. The cab has some rust/rot on the Passenger front corner and the drivers rear corner both approx 6 inches long. This truck could be an amazing museum piece or a fantastic restoration. It needs to be back on the road and just needs you to make it happen! Email me with questions. It is listed on Ebay, and is also for sale locally. More pics upon request. Clear CA title in my name on non-op. Serious offers and trades only please. Yes it is a dually. Only the outside wheels are on it right now due to the others not holding air. There is 5 or 6 extra rims in the bed so you have a complete set and several spares. The cab is the same as 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton, 1 1/2 ton and 2 ton trucks. I am not the authority on whether or not the frames were bigger but it appears that this would be the 1 1/2 ton frame. I have a 47 dodge flatbed I am currently restoring and it is on the 1 1/2 ton frame and these both appear to have similar hardware in terms of spring packs and heavy duty frame. I have a non op notice in front of me that says the registration fee is $56, licence fee is $1, Weight fee is $154, and County fee is $10 for a grand total of $221 whenever you get it restored and ready to drive. When I had it weighed I think it was about 4300 lbs dry with the dump bed and I have it sitting on a standard 7000 lb 18 ft with dovetail trailer (not included). Thanks for your interest. -Jon
