Vehicle Detail
1. Additional equipment and accessories: Pioneer CD Player, original parts throughout including wheel covers from German factory. 2. Maintenance history: Within the past 2,000 miles, FRONT brake pads, rotors, calipers, brake hoses, shocks replaced; REAR brake hardware replaced and shocks. Both inner and outer bearing races replaced. Engine tuneup, spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, condenser, points replaced. Push rod tube seals, valve cover gasket, fuel lines, fuel injection clamp, filter, and seals (small and large) replaced, rack boot, ball joints, bushings (including front control arm busing and endlink bushing), clutch slave cylinder, and CV boot kit installed. Shifter rebuilt for smooth operation. Replaced tires with Michelin two years ago. Locks have been rebuilt. 3. Condition of the vehicle, including notable damage, wear or problems: Very well maintained vehicle. Garaged for 28 years, currently in carport. Issues: Exterior: A couple of spots of insignificant rust. There are a few very minor exterior scratches and a couple of minor dings. Interior: The seat belt housing behind the driver’s seat is cracked (does not inhibit functionality). There is a tear on the lower portion of the rear seat support where it meets the floor. The headliner has some staining above the interior vents; I’m not sure what has caused this because the car does not leak. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Engine: Fuel injectors and lifters will need to be replaced in the future, but both are fine at present. The engine is strong and the mechanics told me it would go another 100k miles. The engine has 80k on it and it’s never been rebuilt. This vehicle has been very well maintained. Notice of error in Motor Vehicle documentation - if you click on this link and then the odometer reading, you will see that it states 36k miles at 1995, 144k miles in 2000, 150k in 2003 and 79k in 2010. This is incorrect. The engine has never been rebuilt and the odometer never replaced. The man I bought this vehicle from (who was the second owner), knew the original owner so the car has no “mystery history.” By the calculations shown in the odometer check, the car would have had 108k miles put on it in 5 years. My friend bought it in 2000 with 50k miles on it and over the next five years, he put on another 29k miles. This vehicle has always been a second car. Owners: This Vanagon has had three owners: the first owner had it for 25 years, second 4 years, third (me) 2 years. All maintenance records available for the past two years which total $4,800 in work. I bought the Vanagon to take my kayaks to the river. Later, my son gave me his pickup truck which is much easier to use to carry the kayaks so now I find myself with three vehicles. This is a great vehicle – I had it thoroughly gone over for safety and I am quite satisfied that it is safe and it’s definitely fun to drive!
