Vehicle Detail

This car is a 1940 Desoto S-7 Deluxe. Flathead 6 cylinder engine, three on the tree, with suicide doors and the large white wall tires. Its the original PT cruiser of yester year. The car has a unique history and has 30,786 original miles! From the Mountains of Pennsylvania, This auction is for a 1940 Desoto. This car was originally purchased brand new by a woman in New Jersey who owned it until she could no longer drive in 1971. The last inspection when she stopped driving is still on the right front windshield. The car spent most of its early life garaged. The second owner who knew the woman and the car acquired it in 1975 and had it for over the next thirty years. He also kept it garaged until only recent years when it was parked outside. The engine runs strong, there is no smoke, no hammer or knock. The second owner had the engine serviced, the valves ground and new bearings in the late 80s, then put it right back in storage. The receipt for the work is still in the glove box. I have been driving it to town and in the countryside. It rolls straight and steers well, no pulling and feels extremely tight yet. The brake peddle is pumped up and feels solid. The shell and sheet metal on the car are remarkable, and are straight and solid, not sculpted of bondo. The floors are solid looking and still show the original stampings. The underside looks straight and clean. The car is a survivor. Please note the magnets in the photo along the bottom of the car. I'm a small dealer in the countryside of PA, and every now and then you come across something like this tucked away. The car was driven so little over the years that it still had the last 1940s set of tires the original owner put on it. I recently replaced them with fat white wall tires. Things that need attention: the pot metal has typical blister on it. The ifterior looks to be original and shows signs of age certain places, staining, tear on top of back seat, tear on front driver's side. Headliner aged but original and intact. The interior paint is dull and aged in places. Dash gauges clean and crisp. The gentleman that owned it last was the second owner and at one point spent thousands on the car having it taken apart and repainted. The paint still shines. Inside of fenders look immaculate and put back on with new fender gaskets. At one point he also spent a fortune replating the bumpers. The bumpers are still very mirror like and show very little hazing or imperfections. There is a small dent on the right rear fender from a garden tractor that was parked next to it while in storage (See photo). There is a small rust hole on the bottom of the spare tire well only. The rest of the well is solid, trunk pan is all metal. Gas tank is shiney like new. There are door panel protector covers on the inner doors that were put on by the original owner and are still on to this day. I folded one back to show the original factory door panel underneath. (see photo). Lights, vacuum wipers work, car has heater with defrost, works. Some slight fogging typical around edge of front windshield. Air duct scoop works good. If you been looking then you know it's hard to find an era car like this especially with low miles and known history for this kind of money. This car is from my personal collection so I hope someone gets it that appreciates it. This car would make for a very easy restoration to a high end point show car. Some guys spend big bucks on a rough car and spend thousands on body work before even getting to paint, let alone the cost of hunting parts and the engine and drive train, spending thousnads more. Just putting on a set of wide white walls can set you back over $1000.00 Or you could start with something like this and get one hell of a head start to a high end show piece. It already looks the part. This is an antique car, it is being sold As is-Where is for restoration. The car runs and drives but will need mechanics gone over and serviced due to be parked so long. There is a video of the car running and driving on Youtube under (Macs 1940 Desoto) The car shows beautiful just the way it is. I price things very low and reasonable as they are usually sold via (Buy It Now) within a short time of being listed. I have perfect feedback on vehicles (read it) so bid with confidence.
