Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1983 Mercedes 300D As a result of a job move to Europe, I am selling this car after owning it only one year. Purchased January 2011 on eBay, I am the third owner. The second owner had the car for 25 years, all in Florida. I am told this is a rare color for this early 80's model. The exterior color is a beautiful “Yew Green”, MB color code 822. The interior MB-Tex code is 155, a very nice cream color. Note: As I am currently still driving the car occasionally, the mileage will change a bit from the listing mileage. Description The Good – Some of the highlights: Car is in overall near mint condition. Engine runs smooth and has great acceleration. [See the list of performed maintenance, below.] The paint is original, polishes to a nice shine and looks great. Interior wood finish is in excellent condition. The MB Tex upholstery is also excellent condition with one exception (see below). The sun roof retracts and closes and all electrical switches work as designed (including the speaker fade knob). The restored radio and speakers sound great. Car will include the original owner's manual and documents. The Bad – Potential items to address: Will need a new transmission sometime soon. It takes more than one second to shift from Neutral to R or D. When cold and accelerating rapidly, the shift from 1st to 2nd gear is abrupt (it “thunks” into 2nd). The vacuum to the climate control system is disconnected in the engine compartment as the vent actuators need to be replaced. Currently no air blows in the foot-wells, which is only a nuisance if you live in the snow belt. The sun roof rails should be lubricated and the sunroof rubber gaskets replaced. And, finally, the windshield rubber gasket and driver’s door gaskets should be replaced sometime soon. The Ugly – For those interested in the details, or in detailing: The interior cloth door surrounds (aka windlace) is torn or pulling out in places. As usual there are small cracks on the dashboard. At the top of the rear seat back, the middle seams have started to split (see picture). There appears to be some small bubbling of the paint below the license plate at the bumper, but otherwise there is no exterior rust and little-to-no rust in the undercarriage. Last year, at the end of Summer, there was some oxidation in the paint, but it polished up immediately (I polished, sealed, and waxed the car in November). The paint has some small nicks and the rear driver’s side and passenger side doors have some scratches (see pictures). On Jan-12-12 at 05:01:13 PST, seller added the following information: Additional Information Oil changes were performed every 3000 miles with synthetic (Amsoil or Mobil 1). Currently has Mobil 1. Oil consumption is minimal. I would guess about 1/2 quart between oil changes. I still see a few oil spots on the garage floor, but these are now the size of $ 0.50 instead of large stains. Prior to changing the oil filter housing gasket and rebuilding the turbocharger, consumption/loss was about 2 quarts between oil changes. These are guesses as I have not scientifically measured oil consumption. Air conditioner blows cold and I've not had to recharge the AC since I've owned the car. Thermostat works and hot air blows hot - quite hot, if so desired. The dash vents and defrost vents are all open and blow air. The ventilation fan is quiet and the high, low, and auto settings work. On Jan-12-12 at 19:34:45 PST, seller added the following information: My apologies forgetting to mention another repair, which can be seen in the photograph of the engine. I removed the faulty EGR valve and capped the openings and vacuum line (for testing purposes only, of course). For reference, the kit I used for this can be purchased on eBay ("Mercedes Diesel EGR removal kit") made & sold by eBay seller monsterparts11. On Jan-16-12 at 05:53:43 PST, seller added the following information: Going through my records again last night, I realized I had failed to list the following work: 154,342 Miles Flushed Cooling System and filled with MB coolant (coolant was still dirty and rust still present). 156, 375 Miles Flushed cooling system and filled with MB coolant. Coolant and passageways/hoses clean and free of rust.Drained and refilled rear differential fluid. Inspected all seals, driveshaft U-joints, and for axle shaft play (mechanic's notes). A bidder asked about the photo of the radio console. The input plug (auxiliary input), visible at the right of the center console, was added to the stereo by Becker AutoSound. This allows the use of an iPod, or other audio accessory, with the radio.
