Vehicle Detail
"The Mighty Stude" This is a rare1960 Studebaker Champ 1/2 ton Arizona truck, with a straight 6 engine and manual "3 on the tree". It is in very nice condition overall. The body is very straight, the paint looks great (nice and shiny but with several small paint chips that are now brush touched up). Also, most people would not notice, but there are a couple of light spots in the paint on the hood. The bed is suprisingly straight for a 51 year old truck. The bed rails are still nice too. All the glass is good, the windows roll up and down fine and the doors latch great. She needs a little electrical work, as the tail lights dash lights and head lights work, but the turn signals, radio and wipers no longer work?? The interior is also quite nice, excellent original door panels, nice upholstery, headliner and carpet. There is also a heavy rubber floor mat. The steering wheel has the usual old car steering wheel cracks. Pump the gas pedal a few times and she starts right up. Runs smooth and quiet, no ticking, tapping or knocking! No oil leaks or smoking either! Shifts great and brakes fine too. Other than the electrical issues, my only other complaint about this little Studebaker are those skinny bias ply tires. On a perfectly smooth road they are not too bad, on a bad road they are TERRIBLE! So plan on a set of nice radial tires. My 79 year old father bought this Studebaker in 2007. At that time, the engine smoked quite bad. He eventually took it to the only "old-timer mechanic" around that would rebuild a Studebaker. The engine was completely rebuilt (with all the receipts included to prove it) along with a new clutch, rebuilt radiator, rebuilt starter and rebuilt carb, totalling close to $4,000 under that hood.......OUCH! Plus many other misc. new parts and a new windshield and gasket. My father rarely drove the Studebaker and only to visit family near by. That new engine is hardly broken in yet. He has also garage kept the truck the majority of the time. Please note - Looking closely at the undercarriage, everything looked straight and fairly clean with no signs of accidents at all. I did, however, find two areas in the cab floor that have had metal patch panels welded in, at the outer most part of the foot area and approximately 8''x12'' on both sides. If you have been looking for a beautiful Studebaker or just want to stand out at the car shows, this is your truck. I have been around some fine classic automobiles my entire life and am surprised about all the attention this little Studebaker gets? Another thing I find funny is how the women adore this truck?? The pale yellow color is a chick magnet! This solid Arizona truck should give you years and years of service and enjoyment. Good luck bidding and Thank you!
