Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an ultra rare, very original 1974 GTO. I have had many, many muscle cars but can honestly say IT DOESN’T GET MUCH COOLER THAN THIS! Unfortunately I am out of room and must begin thinning the herd. This is an original California car and still sports the very desirable blue plates. Sold new at Bridges Pontiac in Hayward, California this GTO spent its entire life in the Golden State. As a result, NO rust! The GTO still wears its original paint! The paint is far from perfect BUT the patina look is very, very cool and extremely presentable. The thumbs up and crowds this car attracts whenever I take it out are overwhelming! All panels are original with the exception of the lower rear quarter panel on the driver’s side. The lower panel was dented when I purchased the car and that section of the quarter had to be replaced. The lower part of the panel was spot painted to match the classy presentation of the rest of the exterior. Three of the “GTO” decals have been replaced while the fourth (passenger’s side fender) is original – Did I mention COOL! I recently dropped the fuel tank to replace the sending unit and found the build sheet! So, very original, very rare and DOCUMENTED a true GTO! One of you Pontiac aficionados have got to have this car! The seats have been recovered and are nice. The carpet, door panels and package tray are original and nice. The dash pad has had a cap installed. I have the radio that came with the car but removed it as it was not the correct one for the car and would have required me to cut the original wiring harness to make it functional. I did not want to do that. Besides sporting the GTO option, this car has air conditioning AND rear window defroster. All the equipment is in place for the air conditioning and compressor engages when turned on but the system is in need of a charge. In 1974 GTO option package included tasteful graphics, Rallye II wheels (14”, this GTO now has 15” Rallye II wheels), dual exhaust, sway bars, and the iconic Trans Am style shaker hood. If optioned accordingly the shaker was fully functional – This GTO is equipped with the fully functional shaker and it works perfectly! Have I said “VERY COOL” yet! I have no documentation to prove it BUT given the overall condition of the car, the carpet and the brake and gas pedals I believe this car to have low miles – 65,000 plus. The gentleman I purchased the car from replaced the 350 with a nicely built big block 400. The car runs great and is very dependable. An aluminum radiator helps keep the 400 running cool and a very nice 2.5” exhaust with turbo mufflers give the GTO an unmistakable rumble. The exhaust is finished off very tastefully with Trans Am style chrome tips. The turbo 350 transmission has been rebuilt and shifts nicely. The front end was also rebuilt. No leaks, drips or slobbers, no hidden gremlins at all, just a nice, original car! I would drive the car across the country tomorrow – It is that nice! A quick list of the little finishing touches the car could use: 1) Install the radio 2) Charge the A/C 3) Drivers door lock sticks every so often 4) Trunk and doors are keyed differently 5) Headliner (Backing board is in place but vinyl material is not – it looks fine but wanted to get it out there) 6) Horn does not work 7) Dome light (headliner mount) is not working – Lights on kick panel do work. I really do not know what else to say about this car. Drive it as it is and have a blast or paint it and have a very valuable car. Either way this GTO will put a smile on your face while attracting often times more attention than you wish for. This is a lot of car for the money! Don’t miss this rare opportunity! Feel free to call Dean at 661-703-8402 with any questions concerning this GTO. Happy Bidding!
