Vehicle Detail
1961 MGA 1600 Coupe, this car has been in my family for the last 22 years, previous owner was my brother, and I have owned the car for just under 12 years. I have listed the car before with a much higher reserve. Do to my economic situation I have lowered the reserve. This car was a barn find when my brother found it. When first purchased by my brother it was in storage for many years. After the purchase my brother turned it into a very nice driver car. He replaced all brakes, brakes lines, master cyl. as needed, tuned it up, replaced all belts hoses, coolant. New tires, original wire wheels were sand blasted, primed with a self etching primer and repainted proper color. Bumpers, grille, MGA insignias and 1600 insignias as well as the steering wheel, horn/speaker bezel were replaced for appearance sake. Car is now red, with a red interior, original color was blue which is serial numbered to the car. In the approx 10 years of my brothers ownership, he probably only put on about 1,000 miles. Upon my purchase from him in May of 2000, the original engine blew (original engine is serial numbered to the car. When he purchased the car it came with a new NOS (New Old Stock) engine in the crate. We were unsure if it was truely a NOS engine, upon further inspection of the the engine and research we were sure is was a NOS engine. He gave me the engine to install in the car, at that time I also replaced the following: Motor mounts, Clutch,Pressure Plate and Throw out Bearing, Radiator, Starter and Fuel Pump. I installed electronic ignnition for dependebility, and the car was also switched from posotive to negative ground. Wooden floors and fire wall are original and perfect condition. Car runs and drives great, everything works as it should with the exception of the speedometer needle jumps around. Recently the drivers door latch stopped working, they are no longer available, but I was able to locate drivers and passenger replacement latches. I have not had the time to install the drivers side, but they both come with the car,as well as the original motor and aftermarket hand crank. Car is a great survivor and can be driven as is or a very easy resortation. Windshield does have a crack in it as seen in the pics. Only one rust spot on car, pass. rear fender, as seen in pictures. This spot has been there since our purchase 22 years ago and has not gotten any bigger. Car has not seen rain or a hose in over 22 years. Tires are also still like new. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, or concerns. You are welcome to inspect the car at my home in Vineland, NJ. Car is also For Sale locally, and I reserve the right to end auction at any time before the reserve is met. I require $500.00 deposit within 24 hours of end of auction. Full payment is required in cash at pick up, or cleared check in my bank account. Buyer is responsible for pick up. I would be willing to meet within 50 miles for pick up if needed. No warranty is expressed or implied and car is being sold AS IS. This is a real survivor and kills me to let it go. Don't miss out on this great rare A 1600 coupe. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. I have nothing to hide and welcome questions by either email, or my cell at 609-774-9312. PS the engine has about 9000 miles since being installed.
