Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a beautifully restored 1969 Chevelle Malibu 4 door sedan. There weren't that many 4 door chevelles made as compared to the sportier 2 door and SS models that are so popular. If your after an SS 396 muscle car that you can take to the local street races, this is NOT your car. What you do get however is a very sharp looking car for a whole lot less money and in todays world 4 door cars are a lot more acceptable than they were back in the day. The best I can tell I am the fourth owner of this numbers matching 250 cid 6 cylinder mated to a PowerGlide automatic transmission. I do have some of the old paperwork on this car but not enough to verify whether or not the speedometer has turned over the 100,000 mile mark. Judging by some of the cars attributes (little wear on the rubber brake pedal and it still has a bias ply spare tire ) I would say it is actual mileage. You can get in this car and turn the key and it will fire up and take you wherever you want to go everytime. The steering and front end are tight, it does not shimmy or wander and it tracks straight. I bought this car in December 2009 and have driven it daily since. It had 53,953 miles on it then and has 64,750 now. In the 10,797 miles I have treated it like my baby and cared for it well. Power steering is the only option that it came with from the factory. There is no visible or evidence of any rust on this car. The floorboards are solid and the inner fenders are clean. The fuel tank has been replaced along with a new exhaust system but other than that the underside is original and in good shape. I have been all around this car with a magnet and I cannot detect anywhere that bondo has been used to repair this car. There are a couple of small scratches toward the top of the front right fender that are a result of my carelessness when doing the initial charge of the air conditioning I lost control of my charge hoses and caused the damage. Then there is a small scrape on the front passenger door that ocurred while I was at the local Kroger store from the door of the car parked next to me. I took pictures of both areas and they are included in the photos provided in this listing. As you can see these minor imperfections really don't amount to much. The overall integrity of the paint is still very good. The interior seat upholstery has been professionally redone with a period correct turquoise houndstooth cloth on black vinyl trim. The dash and door panels have also been redone in black vinyl along with a new black headliner. The carpet is new but the front kick panels and steering wheel have been painted black from there original turquoise color. All of the weather stripping around the doors and trunk has been replaced making the car airtight. The doors, hood and trunk all open and close with ease and all are in good alignment. The windshield is new and pitt free and does have the GM laminated radio antenna in the windshield. For the past 2 years I have used this car as a daily driver here in Houston Texas. Because of the brutally hot and humid summers here I installed an aftermarket under dash air conditioning unit purchased new from NostalgicAir.com. It uses today's 134A freon and parts are readily available through Nostalgic Air. Not wanting to drill holes in the perfect dash I elected to build a console to house the A/C unit along with gauges to monitor the engine and a Sony FM radio CD player. The console is a simple wedged in fit using no holes for mounting and easily removable. The speakers are mounted in the factory locations so as not to damage the integrity of this car. It can all be removed if anyone wanted to take it back to its original build leaving only the holes in the firewall that the A/C hoses run through, an easy fix. This car was built radio delete and the original cover is still in the place where a radio would have been installed. The box on the front seat was built to hold CD's and miscellaneous junk plus provide a comfortable arm rest while driving. It is only heald in by the center front seatbelt and is covered in the same vinyl as the A/C console which matches the seats very well. I have purchased a new crossover SUV for use as the family truckster and I simply do not have room for the Malibu anymore. It has been and still is parked in the garage every night next to my wife's truck. It has to go so my new car can have the spot in the garage. This car runs great, shifts smooth and will make a great hobby and pastime for the lucky individual with the highest bid. This is a No Reserve auction so the car will be sold but I do retain the right to end this auction early as I have it advertised for sale locally also. The car is available for inspection in the Clear Lake City area of Houston Texas. Professional inspections are welcome at your expense. Please contact me for inspection arrangements. This car is a true beauty that turns heads and attracts attention wherever it goes. The winning bidder needs to be prepared to have many people approach them at the gas stations, grocery stores or wherever you take it. You will be asked many questions and get loads of compliments on how good your old classic looks. Good Luck on your bidding, you will be happy you did.
