A Breif History of the 1968 250SE: The elegant Paul Bracq-designed 250 SE which debuted at the 1965 Frankfurt auto show as successors to the "fintail" W112/W113 series cars. The W108 designation referred to the steel-sprung 250se. Underneath, the W108 shares a great deal with the 220s it replaced. "Mercedes-Benz produced a total of 55,181 SEs between August of 1965 and January of 1968; of those, 6,213 were either coupes or convertibles, and about half of total W108 production stayed in Germany. We estimate not more than 1,000 are still registered worldwide" (Hemmings, 2011). Even Mercedes describes the 2.5-liter, OHC inline-six as "developed from the 2.2-liter aggregations [sic] by reboring them and increasing the stroke of the piston," along with a bump in compression, larger valves and improved airflow. It has a bulletproof seven main-bearing cranks with 150hp at 9.3:1 compression in the Bosch fuel-injected "M 129" engine of the 250 SE ("Saloon Einspritz"); a double roller timing chain; and displace an identical 2,496cc. A Breif History of the 1968 250SE:
The elegant Paul Bracq-designed 250 SE which debuted at the 1965 Frankfurt auto show as successors to the "fintail" W112/W113 series cars. The W108 designation referred to the steel-sprung 250se. Underneath, the W108 shares a great deal with the 220s it replaced.
"Mercedes-Benz produced a total of 55,181 SEs between August of 1965 and January of 1968; of those, 6,213 were either coupes or convertibles, and about half of total W108 production stayed in Germany. We estimate not more than 1,000 are still registered worldwide" (Hemmings, 2011).
Even Mercedes describes the 2.5-liter, OHC inline-six as "developed from the 2.2-liter aggregations [sic] by reboring them and increasing the stroke of the piston," along with a bump in compression, larger valves and improved airflow. It has a bulletproof seven main-bearing cranks with 150hp at 9.3:1 compression in the Bosch fuel-injected "M 129" engine of the 250 SE ("Saloon Einspritz"); a double roller timing chain; and displace an identical 2,496cc. The fuel-injected SE models includes an uprated, 55Ah battery.
