Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1967 Triumph TR4A IRS CTC65484LO 67000 miles Body: painted red looks to be a Triumph color (probably Signal). It’s an older paint job but still has some shine. I’d suspect with a buffer you could get it to shine nicely. As I went over the body panels with a refrigerator magnet I could not find any evidence of body filler. So I would suspect all the panels to be solid. There as some pin spot bubbles in the paint on the rear fenders. Gaps are good on doors, trunk and hood. The hood has hold down pins installed. (the catch is wired open. I don’t know if the previous owner had trouble with it or not.) Typical chips for a car with that age. No dents or major scratches. The engine compartment is painted as is the trunk in the matching red. The underside of the hood could use a repaint. There is some metal deterioration on the underside of the trunk lid (bottom lip). Probably some rust that was ground out before the repaint. It appears solid and not continuing to spread. Floorboards look solid from underneath. (there is carpet glued down and I didn’t pull it up.) Rockers are solid. Interior: Wood dash, all correct gauges. All the gauges work. The speedo has been rebuilt but currently is not working (new cable included). I didn’t check it out though. The temp gauge shows temperature but always cool. (I would guess a new sending unit is needed). I don’t think the gauge lights are working. All the lights work (with exception of the side marker blinker, probably a bulb.) It had late model TR6 seats when I bought it and they may be in some photos. I purchased the correct TR4A seats which are very nice (leather I think). It has a tan shag type carpet glued in. (In my opinion it would need a carpet kit). The door panels are fine. The only panel I would replace is the rear bulk head as they put in speakers and the holes are there. There is a radio but not working and the car is still set up as positive ground. (new battery). Interior has a musty smell. I think with some cleaning and deodorizing that it would be ok though. Mehcanical: Good solid engine. It hadn’t been run for about 2 years. It started right up. I’ve driven it about 50 miles. It could use a tune up and some maintenance but has plenty of power. SU carbs. Nothing messed with still has original oil filter design. Looks like the only thing changed were the air cleaners. Transmission is an A-type overdrive. It works correctly in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The is a slight whine in the trans (could be fluid). No grinding or popping out of gear. Horn works. Oil pressure is good (around 50). Seems to have plenty of power. Monza dual exhaust. Nice tone and appears in good shape. Wheels and tires: Tires have great tread, Michelins. I did not check the date code. There is some checking in the sidewalls. They hold air good. The spare still has the new tire sticker on it. 60 spoke painted wire wheels, all 5. Very nice shape. Not all full of grease. It has a shimmy around 55-65mph. I don’t really see any weights on the wheels so my first guess would be a balance. Knock off hammer and jack are there. Frame: The frame does have some rust in it. I don’t think it’s structural but it’s there. I would think you could have a welder plate the holes and this would pretty much take care of it. Each trailing arm bracket has 2 holes near the cruciform plate. I took a hammer and beat around . The plate seems solid as do the welds. I think some water just sat in the channels. There is a rust hole in one of the rear runners as well. Pretty clean underneath as the bottom of the tub still has red paint on it. Chrome and weather equipment: Front bumper is fine. Rear is straight but needs rechroming. All side trim has some pitting but nothing ugly. Glass is all in tact. Rear window in conv top are clear. Convertible top is functional. Not the best mounting job and needs some new seals…but definitely doable for a few more years. Boot and tonneau are included and in good shape. If it doesn't make reserve, I'll make the repairs and resell it this spring.
