2001 Porsche Boxster S 6-Speed Manual & New Engine w/ Only 46k Miles 2001 Porsche Boxster S 6-Speed Manual Transmission ~101,500 miles however the new (reconditioned) engine has ~46,000 miles EXTERIOR: Guards Red, Black Canvas Soft-Top INTERIOR: Black Leather VIN Number: WP0CB298X1U665185 Overview This is a 2001 Porsche Boxster S (Porsche internal code: 986) in Guards Red with black leather interior, black canvas soft-top and 6-speed manual transmission located in Orlando, Florida. While the car has approximately 101,500 miles, it was fitted with a new engine and clutch under Porsche's CPO extended warranty in May 2008, or approximately 46,000 miles ago. This service, and all others performed under our ownership period, is documented in a detailed service history notebook we have kept for the car. Included in this book is a copy of the original window sticker which shows a US MSRP of $57,347. This car came well equipped with factory options such as the Sport Touring Package (wind deflector, digital sound system, cruise control, alarm system, 6-disc CD changer, on-board computer), 18" turbo twist light alloy wheels with colored crests, xenon headlights with washers, carbon fiber door sills, and black floor mats with Porsche lettering. The car is a blast to drive, handles terrifically, has plenty of power, lots of trunk space (2 trunks!), and makes for an excellent daily driver. The red paint is brilliant and still turns plenty of heads. I've thoroughly enjoyed owning this car and am positive whoever purchases it will as well. Please take the time to read the entire auction and inspect the many detailed pictures I have included at the bottom of it before bidding. Condition Mechanically, this Boxster S operates perfectly. The air-conditioning blows cold, the retractable soft-top operates as it should, and nothing is malfunctioning. That said, this is a 100k+ mile car so there is some vibration when driven at speed (mostly between 2.5-3,000 RPM's) and there are rattles from the roof components when the car is driven over bumps. Aside from that, the car handles like it's on rails and the gearbox is bullet-proof. Cosmetically, there a few items to take note of. Most of the miles on this car came from highway driving so unfortunately there are a number of rock chips where you would expect to find them (front bumper, front of hood, side mirrors). The bottom of the front valence features some significant scratches from scraping, especially near the corners. There is a small but deep scratch to the bottom of the driver's side door, approximately half an inch long. Some areas of the fabric soft top are displaying signs of folding and a little fraying-- not anything serious like a hole is about develop, just some softening of the canvas from the top going up and down. There is a rather large oil stain on top of the roof thanks to when another car was stacked on top of this one while it was being transported in an 18-wheel enclosed trailer. My pictures make it appear worse than it actually is, as it's usually not too discernible. As you would expect, the rear plastic window features some very light scratches but otherwise is in great condition for a car of this age, and the 18" turbo twist wheels feature some curb rash near the edges of the rims. We just replaced the rear tires 4 months (~4.5k miles) ago with Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport 265/35R18 so those are in great shape. I believe the front tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE050 225/40R18) have been on for about 3 years but they're still in good shape and grip well so we didn't see the need to replace them with the rears. Also fitted approximately 11,000 miles ago were new brake pads. The interior of the car is in good condition with only three things to take note of: some of the black plastic Porsche used around the center console, door handles, and side sills is scratched up thanks to the original owner. It just isn't the most durable type of plastic the designers could have used in areas of the car that are susceptible the most wear and tear. The passenger's side vanity mirror cover is broken. The cover is still in its proper place, however, and it does not appear to be broken until you lift it up and realize that the piece of plastic that connects it to the sun visor has broken and it will come off in your hand. Not a big deal unless you plan on using the passenger's side vanity mirror a lot. And last but not least is the malfunctioning driver's side seat height adjustment lever. The lever is there, just not connected to the parts that will allow you to raise the seat. History Personal I believe we are the 3rd owners of this car. I do not know who the original owner was but the 2nd owner was a good family friend of ours who purchased this car for himself as a certified pre-owned vehicle from Porsche of Orlando (FL) after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He owned the car for less than a year, hardly ever drove it, and after he passed away his widow sold the car to us over 4 years ago. It has spent its whole life in the state of Florida (save for 7 months in Los Angeles and Las Vegas), has never been tracked and the vast majority of its mileage came from highway driving. Service Included with the car will be a notebook filled with laminated pages containing the car's full service history under our ownership. This notebook will also contain miscellaneous items of note like a copy of the original window sticker and new tire receipts. I have included a couple of photos of the notebook and its contents below as examples of what to expect. Please don't take offense to the fact that the folder cover features a picture of a Corvette and not a Porsche. =) At 55,597 miles (May 2008) the car was fitted with a new, reconditioned engine from Porsche under the extended warranty at The Collection in Coral Gables, Florida. The original engine had to be replaced because coolant had mixed in with oil in the combustion chamber and caused smoking/misfiring of cylinders. While the engine was removed, we also had a new clutch installed so despite the car having over 100k miles, its engine and clutch are only ~46k miles young and both have performed flawlessly since! There is, however, a limited warranty for the new Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport rear tires that were installed on July 22, 2011 at 97,032 miles.
