Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 2001 BMW 325Ci Convertible with 192,300 miles, which has been my Aunt Nancy's primary daily vehicle since December 2000. If you have done any online research for quality used BMW 3-Series Convertibles, you know there are fewer of these manufactured each year than the standard 3-Series Coupes and Sedans and thus they are harder to find and in greater demand. One thing that I like lot about this car is the very attractive color scheme. Many of the BMW's you will see on the road or for sale today are black or silver, however, this vehicle has a really nice Steel Blue Metallic exterior color. The interior is Grey Leather which complements the exterior Steel Blue Metallic quite well. Condition Report This convertible has been very well maintained and looks great for being almost 11 years of age. It's a 1-Owner vehicle and all maintenance records are available since 2010, however, if you click on the FREE CARFAX report link included below, you will see an extensive service history and 25 service records are listed going back to 2002. All available service records in hand will be transferred to the winning bidder. Also, the CARFAX report notes that there were two minor fender bender accidents in this car's history (2004 and 2010), both of which were professionally repaired. The BMW inline V6 engine is strong, starting up effortlessly every time and the transmission shifts smoothly. The heater heats the car up quickly in the winter and the A/C blows cold in the summer. The EPA estimates the mileage at 17 city/24 highway (Nancy got about 19 mpg in mixed highway and local driving) which worked well for her given the excellent performance of this vehicle's engine. On the exterior, the Steel Blue Metallic paint is in very good condition, with only normal wear for a 2001 car, which means there are a few small exterior scratches/chips/dings due to everyday driving. Below, I am fully disclosing everything I observed visually on the exterior. The driver's door has a small chip in the paint at the edge of the door and the rear bumper has several small nicks in the paint (see close-up pictures). Three of the four tires are matching Goodyear Eagle RS-A P205/55HR16 performance tires with at least 50% remaining tread-life. The rear passenger tire recently had a blow-out and was replaced with a brand new wheel (original rim was bent) and Enduro Runway tire in the same size. Again, these are all minor condition issues and nothing that takes away from the overall look and feel of the car, just what you would expect from normal everyday driving. However, I am telling you so that you will see Nancy is not hiding anything. On the interior, the Grey Leather front and rear seats are still in good shape with no rips or tears in the leather, as you will see in the pictures. The leather wrapped steering wheel and wood grain interior paneling are also in good condition with only normal wear. The floor mats appear to be original and show signs of wear but are still perfectly functional. The trunk area is likewise in good and clean condition (see photos). All interior buttons and switches are functioning properly and electronics work, with the exception of the power trunk release. There is an interior power trunk release button and each of the three remotes has a trunk release button on them, however, the power trunk release is currently not operational. That being said, it has not been an issue for Nancy, because the trunk is fully accessible by inserting any vehicle key in the lock located just below the outside of the trunk. The vehicle has a valid NJ inspection sticker good through December 2012. So by now you might be wondering, why is Nancy selling this convertible? Well, that's a great question and she would definitely want to know this if she were interested in this buying a quality used vehicle like you are. First of all, Nancy uses this as her primary daily vehicle and drives about 17,000 miles per year (mostly highway), so she wants a newer car that she can consistently take on long daily trips that needs only occasional regular scheduled maintenance. She has absolutely loved this car and that's why she kept it so long and put over 192,000 miles on it. Second, over the past year, Nancy has made significant investments in several vehicle repairs and has decided that even though having a car payment is no fun, she wants a brand new car that's relatively maintenance free given the high annual mileage she is putting on. Her loss is your gain, because you can benefit from a car that is a lot younger than the miles would indicate upon first glance. Here is a list of major repairs done in the past 12 months:September 2011 - Replaced Rear Passenger Tire due to blowout with new Enduro Runway P205/55HR16 tire ($117)September 2011 - Replaced Rear Passenger Wheel due to blowout with matching BMW wheel ($275)September 2011 - New Fuel Pump and Filter ($589)July 2011 - Replaced Front Brake Pads, Rotors and Sensors ($509)June 2011 - Recharge Air Conditioning System, Pressure & Leak Tested ($231)April 2011 - New Valve Cover Gasket ($88)February 2011 - Replaced Mass Air Meter and Installed Used Transmission with 33K miles ($2957)January 2011 - New Trans Cooler Adapter Assembly ($112)October 2010 - Installed Used Motor with 48K miles and New Power Steering Pressure and Return Hoses ($6300)Total Repairs in last 12 months (excluding routine oil changes) = $11,178 PLEASE NOTE --> Several dashboard warning lights (including check engine) are currently on and our local BMW dealer (Open Road BMW in Edison, NJ) has advised that this is due to the car needing a new Catalytic Converter soon, which is an emissions control device. The car drives 100% perfect (really nice for a 2001) and the Service Manager at Open Road BMW advised that Nancy could drive the car for at least another year without any concerns at all, however, BMW has stringent emissions control standards and even though there is no smoke of any kind coming from the engine or tailpipe, the lights are a warning that the Catalytic Converter should be changed in the near future. This would be a great car if you drive low to moderate mileage per year and want a gorgeous BMW convertible with a newer engine, transmission, brakes, etc. In short, this is a well maintained value priced vehicle that you get many more good years out of. In fact, BMW's with this inline V6 engine have been known to run very well to at least 300,000 miles. Not only is this a well maintained car, but the engine only has 56,000 miles and transmission has only 40,000 miles! Not to mention many other major components that that have recently been replaced (as per above). Is this BMW Convertible a good deal? Well of course Nancy and I are going going to say we think it’s a terrific deal given the all the maintenance that's been invested since she owned it (over $11,000 in the past year alone), but don’t just take our word for it. Take a look below at the Kelly Blue Book Value for a 2001 BMW 325Ci like this and then factor in how well maintained it is. The Kelly Blue Book Private Party Value alone for this car in Fair Condition with 192,300 miles (excluding the new engine, transmission, etc.) is $5,260. Please Note that we are only listing the car in Fair Condition instead of Good Condition due to the Catalytic Converter issue detailed above. In Good Condition, it's worth at least $6,300. When you consider this is a very well maintained 1-Owner vehicle being offered to you at NO RESERVE, we think you will agree you have an opportunity to get a great buy on this car. Plus you get $92.00 in extra bonuses (please scroll down for details).
