****WE FOUND THIS 1965 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE FACTORY VIN # ERROR! WELCOME to North American Muscle Cars on-line store! We are trading assistants and one of our dedicated customers brought us her mothers car to sell on eBay! We are re~listing this 1965 Mustang 289 2bbl Convertible, red on red, white top, auto transmission with center console. This is an original California car, ordered with ARA Air conditioning. This car spent most of it's life in Hermosa Beach California - title was successfully transferred to Oregon without mishap. This was our customers mothers car and she took very good care of it over the past decades. We have her maintenance records and receipts spanning decades which total to more than $30,000 keeping it on the road. Engine had complete overhaul in 1981 at 105,000 miles. Transmission overhaul at 109,000 miles. Has had Kelsey Hayes four piston disc brakes added. The interior, top, carpet, upholstery was replaced one time previously and is now showing age, again... Such is the life of a convertible! Car has been repainted in 2008 (basic fair quality) and we are showing you a photo close up of surface bubbles on the deck lid from contamination when painted? We know the right front fender has been replaced , as have the front bumper, brackets and valance. Left front fender is original with VIN stamping *This is the error, FACTORY VIN NUMBER recording error for this car! See below. This convertible mustang is a very solid, original, nice driver ~ especially if you are looking for something worthy to restore again or simply enjoy as is. With the factory error - she is just that much more special! Car will need a new top and top functionality needs to be serviced when fabric is replaced... This car drives very nice. Tires are average, brakes work good for manual brakes. We believe engine and transmission to be original - we put this on the lift to check out underneath and have included photos of the undercarriage as well. We believe this to be a mostly rust free California car - we only see one rust hole by gas tank on trunk floor - Missing spare and original jack and tank cover. Has aftermarket emergency sizzor jack. ****WE FOUND THIS 1965 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE FACTORY VIN # ERROR! NAMC technicians have discovered an error in the VIN number code associated with this vehicle. The title matches the car fender tag but it is incorrect at "car body style code". The VIN number that appears on the title and fender is : 5F07C607947 and those DO match, as they should, but wrong when VIN code is decoded. This is the error: The body code "07" (third and fourth digit from the left) indicates a hardtop and yet this listed vehicle a factory convertible. The car we are listing has been thoroughly inspected to conclude that it appears to be a legit factory built convertible - we see no evidence of the contrary. We include a photo of the original trim plate affixed to the drivers door which shows the convertible body code: 5F08C607947. "08" indicating a convertible body classification. The two VIN's on this car are exactly the same sequence except for the error of "07" vs. "08"! Logic backed up with research has led us to believe that this is a factory error. We are including within the photos a VIN decoder chart used as example for Year One, Inc. (specific to 1965 Ford Mustangs) showing a diagram of code numbers, the meanings of all numbers and letters are clearly explained. Car assembly plants build cars in sequential order, meaning that in a given model year no two cars built at the same plant will have the same last six digits on a VIN. Historical research and commentary leads one to believe that in the rush to fill orders, Ford assembly lines may have often pulled a car off one line and shuttled to antoher. This is the case with this car! It was on one line that was originally destined to be a hard top then pulled to another where it was continued it's assembly build as a convertible. It was finished off with the correct "08" VIN on the warranty/trim plate after assembly and paint. We are working on a way to prove this definitively, as we have heard of other cars with VIN number typos as well. Records for this year of car are sketchy... It is our opinion as a restoration shop that this car was built by Ford as a convertible. You are welcome to physically inspect the car, or have pictures taken of anything you like on the car to show that nothing has been tampered with to which would be evident if this car has gone through massive frame alterations. Take a good look at the photos... she's a little worn around the edges, but waiting for you to enjoy her! Thanks for looking!
