Vehicle Detail
1980 Fiat Spider 2000 Convertible Well, I have had some bad luck this year. I retired two years ago and four months ago I had a table saw accident and I lost my right hand middle finger and partially amputated two others. Bills are just now rolling in, so I have decided to sell my hobby car that I expected to fully restore one of these days(years). That should put a very small dent in my hospital bills. I have very little, to hardly any use of my right hand since all tendons in remaining fingers were severed. My bad luck might be your good fortune to get a good deal on a car that I bought in 1998 and that has been garaged since I have owned it. There is no visible rust and only one small dent in the front hood that can easily be repaired. Over the years, I have replaced the interior upholstery, including a new top. Unfortunately, at the time, my new six month old puppy took his chewing urge on the vinyl top, and part of the back seat(pictures show this damage) while I was at work. Here is some inside info:Good Stuff: New carpet and interior upholstery, including center console and side panels. At the time of purchase the previous owner said the alternator was new, new radiator& electric fan, and the clutch/pressure plate had been replaced. I drove it home 40 miles and it ran great, with lots of power. A few weeks later I had the muffler, catalytic converter, and exhaust tail pipe replaced at the local mechanic shop. I removed the a/c under dash Mark IV(not sure) and the a/c compressor. I will let the winner have them along with any spare parts I have accumulated over the years. Some of these items include: new master cylinder(still in box), spare used fuse box, and two new hood emblems for back and front. I might have some more free stuff for you so I will look around my shop to find any other items that go with the car since I will not have anymore use for them. I have the antenna mast that does not show up in the pictures.Bad Stuff: First of all, let me mention that I have not worked on my hobby car for years since I moved out here to my old country home. Second thing is that I am a stickler for spare parts. I thought that I was smart enough to replace the timing belt and use the old one for a spare. Wrong!. The car never did idle and run as good as before. I am a fairly good Ford and Chevy mechanic, but this DOHC engine drove me nuts. I do not know how many times I tried adjusting the timing. Those two timing gears are killers! So I have to say that the motor might be locked up since I have not turned it over in years. As such, please consider buying this car as if it did not have an engine since it might be locked up and I cannot guranteed it. I feel terrible about this because the car had a super fast take off start and lots of power. It kind of bend your head backwards on take off. Hopefully, if you are a good foreign car mechanic, you can get it back to its old glory. However, it did have a small oil leak near the front valve cover that I never bothered to fix.I had two other Audi 4000S work cars I constantly worked on. Also as mentioned earlier, the hood has a small repairable dent on the left front. The Sony radio with cassette I was installing is not in all the way and needs to be pushed in better.I am leaving this alone for someone to correct(radio+cassette worked fine, the display is red). Now the reason for the new, but never installed, brake master cylinder: The brake pedal one day went all the way down, so I figured it was the MC. I bought a new one, only to see later that the back left wheel was leaking brake fluid. Seems like the brake piston rubber seals of the back wheel need to be replaced instead of the MC.Oh well, I used to love spending money as I had a good job before retirement. Last of all, I can say that the car needs a paint job, although it has been garaged ever since I have owned it(thus no rust). I have two 4 gallons of paint that you can have if you want. One is a green color(emerald I believe), and the other is some sort of blue, close to the color it has now. The 4 gallons each come in a five gallon buckets. These were bought for me by my daughter, who works for a big paint company. However, the paint was made for horse trailers, but should be good quality. I cannot guranteed it(free for you anyway, if you want one of the 2 colors). Also as previously mentioned are the vinyl top that needs to be replaced and the big bite of the back seat that might be repairable(no, my puppy did not get punished, it is their nature to chew on new stuff, especially new vinyl tops). I am sure there is more stuff to mention, but believe me when I say it is tough to type basically with one hand that is not your dominant one. Just my bad luck the accident was on my right hand and I am right handed. Almost forgot, the passenger side of the front windshield has a crack across it. Also the driver side mirror is missing a screw and is hanging to the side. The passenger side one is missing. Last of all, there is no car battery. It went dead a long time ago and I sold it to the salvage yard for 3 bucks.Misc: The engine has over 92k miles on it, but you could never tell. Excellent take off and power down the road. Please remember that this is a used vehicle and is not perfect by any means. However,it can look beautiful and made to run good if you are willing to spend the time, investment, and labor to restore it.Shipping: No shipping. Car will have to be towed off property by car/tow trailer, or whatever method you can get your hands on.Payment: PayPal deposit of $100. Rest can be paid in cash, money order, or cashiers check on pickup day.
