Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a Red 1972 Datsun 240Z with 100,000 original miles on the engine. It has a four speed manual transmission, a white interior, and no a/c. I am the third owner and can attest that the car was never raced or abused. It was taken off the road and last started in the early 90/s. It was stored in a garage since then, with the thought of restoring it at some time in the future. I realize now that I won't get around to it. I need the room in the garage, so I'm hoping someone else will restore it. This is the full description of the car's history. As most Z owners know, rust happens with these cars. In the early 80's, I had both rear quarter panels re-done. At the same time, I replaced the floors and front frame rails. I also replaced both front fenders and the front grill. A spoiler was added, and it was then re-painted. (Except for the spoiler, this car has not been modified.) It was driven until the early 90's, at which time it was stored in a garage. It has not been started since then. As part of a restoration, the interior pieces were removed. The plan as to repair and re-paint the interior black. This is where work stopped. I have all the interior pieces (with the exception of the black carpet mats and brown padding.) Car mechanical issues are hard to know being that the care hasn't been run for many years. I can tell you that when it last ran, the engine compression was excellent (only 100,000 on the motor). Last time it was started, I noticed a small puff of blue smoke (only at start up). This indicates that the rubber valve stem seals were beginning to need replacement. Also, the blower/heater module may need repair or replacement due to a water leak at the air intake plenum. The car body issues are as follows: - Frame rails and both floor pans need complete replacement again (rusted out, again) - Rusted Battery tray -Rust spot on right side of rear threshold plate (below rear hatch door) -Rusted heater air intake plenum on rain gutter plate (below hood cowl) -Slight paint discoloration spot on drive side front fender -passenger side front torque box has some rust -Seats are dirty (should be reupholstered) driver side has rip in stitching. -Passenger side rocker panel has some rust -Small cracks on top of dashboard. The car will have to be towed to the buyer's garage.
