Vehicle Detail

Samantha Stevens had it all in 1965. A lovely home on Morning Glory Circle, a handsome husband, a brand new daughter, a bevy of secret magical powers, and thanks to the nice folks at Chevrolet, a brand new 1965 Chevelle Malibu. She learned to drive this season in a beautiful Impala coupe, but the Malibu was better sized for her suburban errands, and so a Malibu it was. She even appeared along with the cast of Bonanza in a very special Chevrolet commercial called "Chevrolet's Bewitching Bonanza" on September 27, 1964. There, on the old world set of Virginia City, she appeared along with a bright red Malibu hardtop coupe. A very smart choice, with second year styling refinements including a smart new v-shaped front end, a new grille, and larger taillamps. What more could a young witch ask for? Fast forward forty six years. As much fun as it would be to have Samantha's actual Malibu, there are winters in Westport, so in reality you'd be better off with a California car-Which brings us to this example- sold new at Dick Bullis Chevrolet in Burlingame, CA on June 30, 1965, this car has been sheltered from winter it's entire life. It was finished in Sierra Tan (Code SS) with a tan interior. It's a 195 HP 283 V8 with Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, AM Pushbutton radio, Soft Ray Glass, Padded Dash, color keyed seat belts and electric clock. It shows just over 79,000 miles which is believed to be actual. We acquired this one from a Chevrolet collector approximately five years ago. Even though the car arrived in nice original rust free condition, we still did quite a lot to it to being it up to our standards: Major Tune Up and engine detail (The 283 purrs like a black kitten) Completely rebuilt front suspension- including ball joints, coil springs, inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm, center link, and all bushings New wheel bearings Completely overhauled brakes including new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, rear drums, shoes and hoses New motor mounts and transmission mount New belts and hoses New fuel tank Four new WSW radial tires New battery New exhaust systemIn addition, quite a bit of cosmetic upgrading was accomplished as well. The exterior had been repainted in the original Sierra Tan (Code SS), but the car was taken down and all of the weatherstripping and rubber trim were replaced. Many of the bright trim pieces were replaced with new and the exposed metal trim was all refinished. New vacuum plated interior plastic trim pieces were installed, and a new dash pad was fitted, also new correct carpeting and pad were installed. On the exterior, the bumpers were replated and any damaged or discolored trim pieces were replaced. The sound system was upgraded with an authentic looking stereo cassette radio and concealed speakers. It's great for cruising. So the net result is a very nice car to drive and enjoy- the 283 starts easily and drives smoothly. The Powerglide transmission shifts correctly. The rebuilt suspension rides and handles very well. The car has been maintained in excellent condition. As noted, the exhaust system is recent, the brakes have been redone, the belts and hoses were replaced, the radial tires have minimal miles. The car is a pleasure to drive. It's a pleasure to look at as well. The rust free body panels line up well and show no signs of accident or abuse. The paint is smooth and glossy, and the body sides have excellent clarity. There are no waves, this was not an inexpensive finish although it mist be noted that the door and trunk jambs were not show painted. The chrome is a mixture of replated (bumpers), excellent original, and newly replaced. The overall effect is that of a very nice car. It wasn't over restored to the point where it must be carried on pillows, but is an honest and correct looking driveable car. Call it a 2-plus, or a 9 on a 10 scale. The interior is very nice. The seats and door panels were in very fine condition, so we refoamed the seats and stopped. The carpets and sill plates were replaced correctly. The dash pad had a crack, so it was replaced as well. It appears a shade lighter than the rest of the interior to me. The headliner appears excellent original. The chrome vacuum plated interior trim parts have been replaced along with all of the weatherstripping. The interior painted surfaces have all been refinished. The front seat belts are color keyed with correct latches. The stereo has been professionally installed with concealed speakers and no damage to the fascia. Again the overall effect is a very nicely kept example. The gauges work except for the electric clock. As nice as it is, no forty six year old car is perfect. The clock is inoperative, and when I pulled it out for photos, the right front directional bulb was inoperative. The undercarriage shows no signs of winter exposure ever. It is neat and tidy and the floors and door bottoms are excellent - see the photo album. Of course, we can't begin to show you the car with 24 photos, so follow this photo link to an album with over 100 photos. So if you're a Bewitched fan, or if you love the look and feel of a nice correct car, or even if you're just a witch, you owe it to yourself to seriously consider this car. We have placed a most reasonable reserve on the car that represents an excellent value (far less than we have invested) and it is our sincere intention to find it a good home. European buyers are equally welcome and port delivery can be accomplished for around $150. The car is garaged in Costa Mesa, CA and may be viewed upon request. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Samantha Stevens not included. Thank you for looking and happy bidding. On Nov-05-11 at 14:50:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello and thanks for all the questions and interest. We are out of town until Monday and so we can't show the car until we return. Also please note that the Malibu has power steering but manual brakes. Sorry for the oversight.
