Vehicle Detail

Pity poor Al Bundy. He must have felt left behind, driving a Dart Sport through the "Married With Children" series while his neighbors were showing him up with BMW's and Mercedes-Benzes. Even his poor Dart itself wasn't up to par, it was really a nearly-identical Plymouth Duster with the nameplate removed. Seems the producers didn't even bother to find him a real Dodge and humiliated him even further with a Dart knockoff. But these days Al is stylin'. He's got a new name, a new TV series, a supermodel wife, and a Mercedes SL550 roadster. He has everything. Well, almost everything. Sadly, he still doesn't have a real Dart Sport. But you can if you're lucky. This 1973 Dart Sport is one of 68,113 produced in the model year. It's an original blue plate CA car which was sold new in La Quinta, CA (a suburb of sunny Palm Springs- California's desert vacation paradise.) It lived a dry and carefree life here in the desert and was clearly of being 100% garaged. It was donated to charity after the longtime owner passed away and we rescued it from there. It had some sun load on the upper paint surfaces and a few scrapes, but was in very intact overall condition with a wonderful rust free undercarriage and an excellent original interior, so we took it home. It's quite a seventies statement- the original color is called Pale Green but really is anything but- I would call it Key Lime Pie with a bright olive vinyl interior-with original metallic sheen even! And no, I normally wouldn't put olives on a key lime pie, but it's a bright and cheerful combo that turns heads and generates smiles. It screams "Have a Nice Day." Truthfully, the color sold us on the car. It has usual equipment with the 225 cu in slant 6 engine (code RG), Torque Flite Automatic Transmission, Power Steering and brakes, AM radio, heater and defroster, remote mirror, white stripe tires with full deluxe wheel covers and deluxe olive interior. Undisturbed from build, including the original radio still.Since acquiring it, a great deal of restoration and mechanical reconditioning has been accomplished including:Complete professional repaint in the original color. Done by a high line specialist in Santa Monica, the side are smooth and the panel clarity is excellent. It's an awesome finish and is probably better than new. MAJOR service including tune up, coolant flush, all belts and hoses, value adjustment, distributor, plugs and wires, transmission reseal, new exhaust, four new whitewall radial tires, harmonic balancer replaced, heater core replaced, rear main seal and pan gasket replaced, motor mounts and transmission mounts, all light bulbs replaced, new wiper blades, new foam in the seats, and new alternator and voltage regulator. They are known for having trouble with the dash wiring and that complete underdash harness was replaced. We went to great expense in making a sharp looking and reliable car, and there's no way we'll recover anywhere near what we spent. But someone is going to get a very nice little Dart Sport. It starts easily and idles smoothly. The Torqueflite is a snappy shifter. Handles and rides well (for the economy car that it is.) The 225 slant six is a bit leisurely but can run at highway speeds. Drag racing is not something I would recommend. It's a driveable and enjoyable little car, and it looks like a million bucks. Even Al Bundy will look over from his SL550 and smile at it. It's cosmetically super with the straight body, new professional paint, and excellent original brightwork. We added the side moldings in the original style to protect the new finish. The stainless and bumpers are excellent and the rubber trim is soft and supple. The original interior is excellent. The foam was degrading on the seats so we had it replaced. Seats, door panels, and headliner are excellent. There is some surface cracking on the corners of the dash pads. Carpets appear in fine shape. There is nothing about the car that disagrees with the odometer reading of just over 64,000. Of course, no 38 year old car is perfect, and I have described the flaws as best I know them. But it is a very nice car and an excellent value. There's no way I can show you such a nice car with eBay's 24 pictures, so follow this photo link to see almost 100 high quality photos. We have placed a most reasonable reserve on the Dodge and it is our sincere intention to find it a good home. The reserve represents an excellent value as it is a fraction of what we have spent. Blue plate CA cars don't grow on trees these days, European buyers are equally welcome and port delivery can be accomplished for around $150. The car is garaged in Costa Mesa, CA. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Peg Bundy and the kids are NOT included. Thank you for looking and happy bidding.
