Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1978 Pontiac Trans Am that I had taken apart with the intention of restoring but I am losing my storage space so the car has to go. If you have wanted to restore a Trans Am, this is the one for you. I have the original build sheet, as well as the original owners manuals and everything. The car has only 68,000 miles on it, and has lived exclusively in the Cleveland area since purchase. As far as rust, there is little to none because the car has largely been garage kept for the past 25 years by myself (for the time I have owned it) and the owner before me. You can see on the floor pans and trunk floor just how solid they are, as well as the pictures of under the car I shot. I want to say the car was originally Zeibart coated, so that really helps. The car is largely in pieces right now and needs to be finish restored. I put it back together enough to transport, but not so much you will have to re-tear everything back down. The high points of the car are the interior, as very few pieces need to be replaced. The seats are fantastic, the door panels looks new, the dash is usable, and other than a piece here or there it is largely ready to go. It needs carpet, headliner and package tray, but those aren't expensive to replace or nearly as costly as reupholstering seats. The Seat Belts also look great! It is an automatic transmission with the original Pontiac 400 motor. I had the whole drivetrain out last summer, but never got around to rebuilding it, so I put it back in. Most of the body work has been done on the doors trunklid, while other areas have been started. The passenger side quarter needs work because a family member scraped it along the fence post pulling it out one time, not because it was in an accident/collision. Other than that the body is solid especially the floors and tail panel. The car comes with air-conditioning and most standard options for that year. The front spoiler assembly is all usable (I am missing the back 2 spoilers for the rear wheels. . .those are the cheaper ones to replace). The car has discs in the front, drums in the back. The snowflake wheels are in good shape. I also have a full spare tire assembly for it. That is the big stuff for now I guess. This car is perfect for someone who wants a super solid original car to restore in which a good bit a of the tear down work has already been done. It is not a major reclamation project, and doesn't need massive metal replacement. Having the original buildsheet and manuals will make this a great car because you can't replace that stuff if it is gone. I think the price is entirely reasonable as even though it needs some things it is incredibly solid and when you consider what it costs to replace quarters, trunk pans, floor pans, tail panels, and other things to get a car that doesn't need to have all that done when starting is worth spending a little extra on. Someone wanting a lower mileage original car with all documentation will understand the value. Not to mention how much of the interior will be usable in a restoration.
