Vehicle Detail
For auction is my 1980 Chevy C10, short bed, step side pickup. I've owned this truck for two years and spent 14 months of this time in restoration along with a professional mechanic from Arrow Automotive here in Flint Michigan. I truly intended to keep this truck for my wife as an advertisement aid for her business. My wife is a published author on farming and farm life and this truck really draws attention where ever she goes. Unfortunatley, it is hard for my wife to get in and out of the truck (it sits high as I put taller tires on it for a better ride). She really needs something like a Jeep Cherokee which would make it easier to load her equipment for her speaking engagements. I really like the truck myself, but I already have a 1967 and an '84 Chevy pickups. This truck spent its life on an Apache Indian reservation in New Mexico, hence no rust, in fact the metal inventory tag stating that it is (was) Apache property is still afixed to the inside of the driver's door. The truck does have a rebuilt title because it ran into (low speed) the side of a building. The bumper, grill and left front bumper were replaced with local salvage items (not foreign reproductions!). Of course being as old as it is the insurance company just totaled it. Before I started the resto work, I took it to a local frame and body shop and had it put up on the rack and tested for any frame misalignment, it tested that the frame was absolutely straight and there were no frame weld repairs. Also, I had to take it to a state of Michigan inspection shop to have it certified and it passed with flying colors. The paint (about two years old) is Dupont Imron (a highly durable paint) and near perfect in its application (applied by a auto body paint shop). Because I wanted this truck to be absolutely perfect mechanically for my wife I did many things to it which I will now try to list. I probably will leave some out, but please feel free to email questions: To keep it near to original, I replaced the original straight six engine with a 250 CI straight six crate engine from Gearhead engines in California. I don't have the space to list what all they do to an engine, but again please ask questions. I am amazed at how this engine idles and runs (it came with a 3 year warranty), plenty of power and cruises terrifice at 70 mph at 23mpg. The radiator (brand new) is a 3-bay brass (not aluminum or copper) one that I paid $475 for, all following items completed by Arrow Automotive: carb completely rebuilt, 3-speed Hydromatic tranny completely rebuilt, new steering gear box, 4 new tires (with about 2000 miles on them), new shocks all round, all new ball joints (tie rod ends were not needed but new ones come with the truck), all new wheel bearings, all new brakes (disc in front), new front anti-sway bar, new front springs, new battery, new starter, new exhaust from engine to tailpipe, new heater core and blower motor, new gas tank, all new emergency brake cables and brackets, all new glass except wing vents, all new weather stripping, all new belts, it has a 12-bolt rear end, new lockable diamond plate tool box in bed, all new gauges and new interior. Everthing on this truck works! Bidding starts at $5400 and no reserve. Thanks for looking.
