2005 Passat GLS Wagon TDI For final sale as is, this is a great project car that can be transformed into a highly reliable long life used car. Vin: WVWCE63B65E090666 Miles: 148,281 This car runs great however, the check engine light is on and the computer sensor code is indicating that the torque converter needs to be replaced. After flushing the transmission fluid and changing the transmission fluid filter a VW dealer and an independent mechanic both feel that the tork converter is the likely problem. The VW dealer quoted me a new torque converter installed at a price of $3,000.00-so this is likely the worse case replacement price. Here are the positive things about this car. The engine was essentially rebuilt at 140,556 miles by the mechanics at Fairfax Volkswagen in Virginia. This work which is all documented in the service history receipts, included the replacement of the turbo pump, camshaft and valve lifters. Positive things about the car: -New turbo, cam shaft and valve lifters in engine: 140,556 -Transmission fluid flush and filter change: ~147,000 -Last oil change at: 144,495 -Timing belt replaced at: 108,281 -Break pads last replaced at: 118,202 -Water pump replaced at: 108,281 -Power steering flushed at 123,461 -both low beam headlights have just been replaced by me -35 mpg on the highway though I have gotten as much as 41 mpg on long trips avaraging 60 mph -Car is solidly built and handles great -Great acceleration for a four cylinder diesel engine -Front wheel drive great on ice and snow -Two front and two side airbags for driver and front passenger -Monsoon sound system with AM FM, CD and cassette w/Ipod adapter -Tiptronic automatic transmission-great in ice and snow -Dial control sunroof with vent mode -Comfortable heated leatherette seats in great condition -Adjustable lumbar control in driver’s seat -Detailed service receipts with most major service done at VW dealerships -Yakima roof rack -Alloy rims -Fog lights -Fuel efficiency and speed averages dashboard computer -Air conditioning -Car alarm -Wine cooler vent in glove box -Non-smoking car -Two remote access keys and one valet key -Dark grey interior in good condition -Fold down rear seats and hatch back -Rear wiper and defroster -Remotely adjustable side mirrors with defrost mode -Adjustable speed front wiper controls -Full size spare tire -Never wait in a long gas line on a toll highway just pull up to the diesel pump at the truck stop -Lots of 12v plugs throughout the car -Air added to spare tire in July Negative things about the car: -Needs a new torque converter -Was in a front-end collision in July of 2010 mostly cosmetic no damage to the frame no airbags deployed, some damage to cooling system that was repaired, all work is documented. All repairs and bodywork look and work fine. -Has numerous small scratches and gouges on rear bumper -The driver’s side headlamp cover is newer than the cover on the left side -Scratches on both rear rims -Some dog hair embedded in the rear cargo space carpet -FM antenna is repaired with black electrical tape -The chrome trim is slightly oxidized from acid rain -Two quarter sized discolorations one from water another from pine tar on left side of car, plus some minor scratches (see photos) -Needs all wiper blades changed before winter -A good idea to put on two new front tires before winter -One key remote needs a new battery
