Here is my recently restored 1976 FJ40 with the original 2F motor. I am the fourth owner of this well maintained beauty. It was originally purchased from Bill Laursen Toyota in Camden, SC in 1976 and was kept covered and used in a Girl Scout Camp around Columbia, South Carolina for the next 30 years. I think the Teneesse red clay helped protected it all those years. The next 2 owners purchased it to restore it but then our economy went south and never did anything to it. I purchased it as solid vehicle with minimal rust and a perfect frame and removed all the panels and stripped/sand blasted the original paint and the rust treated the entire vehicle. I have had the vehicle on the highway at over 70 miles per hour. The exterior was painted with Base/Clear Freeborn Red PPG paint and the frame and undercarriage treated with POR 15 as a 3 step process. In some areas known for rust a fourth step was taken and 3M undercoating was applied as the POR 15 was setting. Anything that was replaced was OEM Toyota Parts with the exception of the head and tail lights which were aftermarket. Power Steering was added also. We attempted to keep it as original as possible. The mats are original but do have some tears in them. Has all new stainless steel hardware, nuts bolts, hood hooks, etc. All the emblems are new toyota OEM. Durabak truck bedliner was used on the floor. All paint colors are original toyota colors. The vehicle runs great and starts easily. It does have a small oil leak, I think it needs a rear main seal for which I bought from Toyota which will be included. It shifts fine but when in first gear the stick feels a little loose, probably an easy fix especially if the rear main seal is replaced It still needs window channels installed that need to be purchased, the old channels are worn. I will also throwh in a new aftermarket AC system that I never had the chance to install. It was slightly damaged when shipped to me where the drain nipple was broken off but should be an easy fix. It works great in all gears and in 4 wheel drive. It has been garage kept since the resoration about 2 years ago with about 500 miles put on it. Has new master cylinder, exhaust, rebuilt carb, new water pump, new tach, all new rubber seals, headliner, sun visors, wipers, plugs, valves retimed and probably other things that I forgot.
