Vehicle Detail
Here is an original, unmolested, un-hacked survivor car from 1972. The original owner was a lady who purchased it brand new from a local dealership when she was 56 years old. 35 years later, in 2007, she passed away and her son took ownership of the vehicle. Both names (same last name) are on the title. Although hardly driven, the car has been impecably well maintained. Unfortunately, no receipts could be found from the early years, but since 2007 when the son took ownership, he has receipts showing all the repairs. Although he only drove it to keep the battery charged, he spent quite a bit of money to keep it maintained. It got a carburator overhaul as well as a major tune up and just this month got a new battery and alternator. It is quiet and smooth and runs/drives really nice. BODY/EXTERIOR: Amazingly, the car is rust free except the vinyl top as shown and a silver dollar size hole directly under the battery box. Otherwise, there is only surface rust on the frame and underside of the body. The paint is original and although not perfect, it is as good as it gets for 40 years old. It appears to have never had any paint/body work done to it because it is all the same shade. The son said it has been garaged every day of its life except for the time spent on the parking lot when his mother was at work. (which was the same place for 30 years). The only big dent is the right 1/4 panel as shown in the pics. Otherwise the body is straight except for the obvious parking lot dings a car acquires after 40 years. Even those dings are very minimal. Probably because it has body side mouldings. The mouldings are factory original and not an add-on because the actual moulding clip retainers are a permanent part of the sheetmetal as opposed to being riveted. Kinda rare in itself. I don't believe the car has ever been hooked to a wrecker because the valance panel is perfect. Back in the day, sling type wreckers would tear up a valance panel everytime. The hood, doors, and deck lid all close really nice. All the glass is very good and has factory tint. Grill has a small break as shown. All the chrome is in very good shape. DRIVELINE: 350 engine with Turbo 350 automatic transmission. The transmission shifts great and the engine runs like a top. The engine does puff a little smoke on start up which is obviously valve seals but does not smoke while running. Shower down on the accelerator and the car performs very nicely with a working passing gear and plenty of power. Apparently it has highway gears in the 10 bolt rear end. It floats down the road as a "luxury" Malibu should and is extremely quiet due to a recently replaced muffler on the single pipe exhaust system. Not sure how old the tires are but they look nearly new. INTERIOR: The interior is all original (except radio) and unbelievably clean. Headliner is nice and tight but has some stains. Sunvisors are perfect and still have the "start procedure" placard in place. This was a big deal back then because they transitioned from the key on the dash to the key in the steering collumn. Dash pad is perfect and still soft to the touch. Even the horn shroud on the steering wheel is totally soft and still works. Carpet has no stains or imperfections. It still has the Chevrolet floor mats from the dealership which were obviously left in the car all its life. Front and back seat are original but look they were just recovered--really nice. TRUNK AREA: Look at the pics and you will see an ultra rare plastic jack cover to match what appears to be an unused bumper jack in perfect condition. The holddown stud is missing but otherwise all the parts are there. Notice that the spare tire matches the other 4 on the car. These wheels were an upgrade option somewhere between the steel wheels and the rally wheels. I peeled the trunk liner back and found no rust at all. Even the original spatter paint is is all there and looks good. NICE TO KNOW STUFF: The dome light, cigarette lighter, horn, gas gauge and speedometer all work. Turn the key to start and the oil/temp/alt red lights all work as advertised. Windshield wipers work and you can hear the pump click when pushed. Blinkers, brakes, headlights and all dash indicator lights work correctly. All blower speeds work and the air conditioner blows ice cold. It has been converted to 134-A. The freon was out when I got it so I serviced it this week and it is blowing nice and cold. No telling how long it will stay that way but it does work well with freon. Somehow the owner was able to keep the original title which shows the car was purchased by his mother in May 1972. Of course it is supeceded by the current title in her son's name but it's kind of neat to still have the original 1972 title. Here is an original, running driving car with very minimal rust for sale at no reserve. People often ask my starting price for rusty Chevelle hulks with no driveline. This car is currently registered and inspected per Texas state law and ready to drive. Finds like this come around once in a blue moon and it is happening less and less. I thought it was way too nice and unique to tear into so I'm offering it up here. My name is MIke. Call 903 268-3219 with any questions or send me an email. Thanks for reading. I am asking that anyone with a feedback rating of less than 5 please call and speak with me before bidding. If you don't call me, I will cancel your bid. We all gotta start somewhere and I'm OK with that, but please give me a courtesy before bidding.
