1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Convertible Click Image for Photos 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit This Volkswagen Rabbit was donated to the Petersen Automotive Museum in 2002 and has spent the past several years in an environmentally controlled storage facility. It is a great little classic car that needs some attention. Drivetrain: The Volkswagen listed here retains its stock fuel-injected, 1.7-liter 4-cylinder engine with 3-speed automatic transmission. It starts and runs well, but has a fuel leak. We’ve only driven it around the facility so we can’t vouch for how it will run above parking lot speeds. The brakes work fine and a new battery was recently installed. Exterior: Doors, hood and trunk fit well and shut tightly. All exterior lights work. The car appears to have been repainted in areas. The body has dents on both front fenders, a section of the rear bumper was broken off, and some of the trim on both sides is missing. The manual soft top is in great condition and we have no problems raising and lowering it. The tires are well-worn and should be replaced, especially the rear right one which is cracked. Interior: The cloth interior is in very good shape except for the driver’s seat which has a couple big tears. All the windows go up and down. The rear view mirror and the manual handle for the driver’s window both broke off, but we have them. The car is equipped with air-conditioning and an AM/FM radio and Kenwood cassette stereo. The radio, dash gauges and lights work. Overall: Please keep in mind that this Volkswagen has been sitting in storage for the past several years. While it runs and drives, we suggest that a qualified mechanic take a look at the car before deeming it “roadworthy.” The Rabbit is currently registered in the state of California under PNO.
