Vehicle Detail

This is a solid old 1951 Studebaker Champion 2 door. It runs and drives. When I bought it last fall, it had been in storage for about 20 years. I had a mechanic look it over. He pulled the head and got a couple of valves unstuck and got it so it would start and run. It will still need the carb removed and baked out. It will not idle, it just dies unless you give it some gas. The front brakes work well, the rears are not currently hooked up. The gas tank is not hooked up, the car is just running off of a one gallon gas can under the hood. I put a new battery in it this winter. I drove this car home the 7 miles from the machanic, but it was all gravel and I would not plan on driving it without doing some more work. All of the gears work well. The odometer shows about 65,000 miles, but the speedometer does not work. I could not get any lights to work when I drove it, but that may have just been operator error. The body is pretty solid with a little bit of bondo in some spots. The spare tire well is rusted like they all are, and trunk is rusted in some of the spots where the floor meets the sides. The front drivers side foot well also has a hole rusted. These were the only spots I could find where it was rusted through, but I did not put the car on a hoist. The rockers are solid. There is a repair on the inside front of the passender side front fender. Mice have gotten into the interior, so it could use some work. All of the glass is good. The frame and all of the underneath structure appear to be solid. Someone sprayed it with undercoating at some point and that is starting to flake off. This car is equiped with overdrive an a hill holder. I have a good title for it. The mechanic who worked on the car is a Studebaker enthusiest and he seemed to think the car was in pretty good shape. It still has what I would guess is the original dealer emblem on it. This is a very fixable old survivor that would make a great restoration project or streed rod candidate. However, if I were going to keep ut, I would probobly just finish fixing the mechanicals and drive it the way it is. Please email or call Daniel at 320-296-9553 for any questions. You are welcome to come inspect this car in Hutchinson, MN. This is an old vehicle so you are buying it as is where is.
