Vehicle Detail

When Heinz was born (for the model year 1990) he was frolicking in the Bavarian pastures with his other 3-Series litter-mates and suddenly word came that a blue-eyed young lady in south-eastern Iowa was desirous of his company for long rides in the moonlight, consistent performance on highways and byways, great mileage, 4-wheel drive performance at any altitude or speed. Her husband, my brother-in-law, kept a logbook in Heinz recording every tank of gas and every oil change (Mobil 1 full synthetic since day one) or repair. This relationship continued gloriously until my sister had too many children to fit in the car, at which point, Cousin Pete, who needed a car, and had no children, took Heinz into his garage. Cousin Pete lives in Sacramento, California, and Heinz was well pleased to get away from any threat of salt (which he had avoided with great skill) to his undercarriage. Unfortunately, with Cousin Pete, Heinz’s all-weather performance was not used except for occasional ski trips to Mammoth or Lake Tahoe. Cousin Pete continued the logbook and religious oil changes, regular maintenance and use of Mobil 1 synthetic. After a period of unemployment, Pete, a committed bachelor, landed a radically good job and celebrated by purchasing a Porsche Boxster convertible. Alas, Pete had only one parking spot and was soon being harassed by….let’s just say…concerned neighbors who had noticed that he seemed to have quite a German car habit. I had always been fond of Heinz and was at the supper table at my sister’s house when Pete called to offer her Heinz back again. I volunteered to give him a home in Wyoming. Heinz has happily been thriving here at 8,000 feet of elevation, elated that we use no salt on our roads. I have continued the logbook and Heinz, to this day, has never had anything but Mobil 1 synthetic cross his oil filler. Included with Heinz will be 4 new oil filters, spare air filter, 2 new spare CV boots with hardware and a new spare exhaust hanger. The body trim strips uninstalled from the front quarter panels will also be included. We looked up the NADA values on this guy and it ranges from $3,700 (for a not-too-well maintained one) and $6,800 for one who is pristine. Heinz is slick, clean and beautifully well maintained. If and when this auction goes past the middle range ($4,500) I will include his “summer tires” which are mounted on BBS Honeycomb wheels (16”) with Michelin street tires, with only 3,000 miles on them. Here’s the nitty-gritty: 220,000 miles. This car has never been smoked in and the lighter has never even been used. We removed the back-seat ashtray when we realized that it was the perfect size to function as a CD holder. Heinz has a sunroof, car alarm, AM/FM/CD, retractable antennae, power windows, power door locks, ski bag to interior from trunk. Fresh brake job, front and rear. Fresh oil change and tune-up within 200 miles. Compression at tune-up was 130, 130, 127, 130, 127, 127. Every single fluid changed within 20,000 miles. Only synthetics used - lifetime. New front CV boots within the last 2,000 miles. CVs are like new, front and rear. None of the tires have 10,000 miles on them. Bilstein shocks. Center differential working perfectly with the 63% rear torque bias as designed at the factory. Speaking of factory, every factory tool that came with Heinz to my lovely sister is still with Heinz and offered in this sale. That includes the towing eye, jack, lug wrench, and all screw drivers, wrenches, pliers. Everything in Heinz works except that the clock is resistant to mountain time and seems to consistently reset itself to the time in his homeland of Bavaria. The heated seats are phenomenal on cold mornings or evenings. The outside temperature gauge works perfectly and reliably even on sub-zero days. Heinz consistently scores well above 20 MPG and I have this ongoing debate with Heinz’s other driver because she gets close to 30 MPG when she drives and she CLAIMS that I might have a little bit of a lead-foot…okay, she might be right. Even with a headwind and total lack of visibility with snow to the point of blizzard/road closure Heinz gets well into the high 20s for mileage (even with me at the wheel). Heinz’s traction is phenomenal. Must be experienced to be believed but you probably have not driven a car that is Heinz’s equal, unless you too have a litter mate who frolicked with Heinz in the great Bavarian pasture that those younglings called home.On Sep-17-11 at 10:12:13 PDT, seller added the following information:I have been asked about the accident listed by Autocheck, the accident was news to me. I'm looking in the logbook for 1991 and the page that starts on 6/20/91 and ends at 8/30/91 lists no gasoline purchased in Florida. It also lists that on 7/11/91 at a mileage reading of 46107 Heinz was being serviced at Bob Zimmerman BMW which was in Cedar Rapids, IA, so I'm not really sure how an accident could have occurred that month in Florida with Heinz. I'm still waiting for word from my sister but there seems to have been some mistake. All entries on the previous and subsequent pages of the logbook indicate locations that do not include Florida. On Sep-21-11 at 08:45:41 PDT, seller added the following information:Heinz has his oil changed every 5,000 miles which he really enjoys. As per the BMW owners manual's recommendation, I have been using Mobil 1 15-50 in full synthetic. Heinz uses NO oil between changes, I never add any between oil changes. On Sep-22-11 at 11:04:19 PDT, seller added the following information:Heard back from my sister and brother-in-law, the log entries on the dates of the supposed Florida accident are correct: Heinz was in Iowa and not Florida on that date. Both my sister and brother-in-law remember a very minor low-speed parking-lot incident which resulted in a broken headlight some time around that date - in Iowa. Both my sister and brother-in-law stressed that it was very minor and that Heinz was not involved in any other accidents in any state.
