ResurfaceFD Store Collectors Classic 1973 VW Minibus This running bus is good and solid. Its ready for a complete restoration and needs to have some issues addressed. First the body: It is in relatively good shape for its age and location. This bus has the higher turn lights, much better look in my humble opinion. There is some damage from a minor accident to the drivers side front. It has been partially repaired and needs bodywork here. The running lights and the turn signals work, but the headlights dont. It could be lenses or wiring, I havent looked into it. I have removed the windshield wipers and pulled the motor arms back from the exit holes to the windshield. I have also removed the front vent cover and the turn signal lenses. They are all with the van and easy to re-install once the front is fully repaired and body work done. I have treated the floorboards in the front. They need some further work though. The front fenders on both sides need some more work in addition to what I have done. There is rust around the rear engine hatch, at the bottom of the body along both sides, along the rain gutter that runs around the top and minor rust around a few of the windows. The passenger side middle window is new and has a new gasket. There is another new slider in the van. It can be put on the opposite side, just needs another new gasket for installation. The gaskets around the other windows are aged and cracked. The undercarriage looks good, no serious rust. Brakes, steering, axles, leaf springs, drive-train and frame dont have any problems. The tires, wheels and the hubcaps are in good shape. This van comes with the original carbs, old shoes and bumper stops. On to the interior: I have removed the rear metal panel of the dash. It is fairly rusted where this met the bottom of the windshield. It can be treated and put back in place though. The dash lights up and the gauges are all readable. The seats are in poor condition but the frames are there, sturdy and could easily be re-upholstered. The headliner is dirty and has a few decent tears in it. It may be salvageable. The interior panels on the front doors are okay and could be restored. The interior panels in the back are beat. A couple are still in there and can be used for patterns. The floor is in decent shape, as is the engine closeout deck. Currently the drivers door doesnt open from the outside, easy fix. On to the engine. The previous owner removed the two carbs that sat on the intake manifolds and put on a single carb and new manifolds. Ive replaced the battery, the alternator the wiring harness. Two covers around the alternator need to be put back on, they are with the bus. The bus starts and runs. The carbs need to be cleaned and rebuilt, it is a little rough right now. The mileage is listed, but it may have rolled over. It was mileage exempt on the title. This bus has the 1.7 liter engine that was found in the bus for 1972 and 1973. It doesnt leak any oil and the exhaust looks fine. I know this engine is really drivable but needs some tuning. I dont think that I have missed anything. This VW has issues but they are all fixable and relatively minor in the grand scheme. Hey, this thing is nearly forty years old and still on the road. It really is a classic, and if restored properly it can be a lot of fun and a good investment. It helps if you can work on it yourself. Im putting a low reserve on here, I hope this diamond in the rough finds a good home. Thanks.
