Vehicle Detail

This is an absolutely beautiful real sports car. The body is by master Italian coach builder Pinin Farina. It has the original Midnight Blue paint. The finish is all but flawless, with only a few very tiny pebble chips that have been touched up and are virtually unnoticeable. (See the pictures. They do not show.) There is no rust and no body damage at all. Windows work very well. There are no leaks or drafts. The mileage that this car has been driven may seem high, but please realize that the way the mileage is put on a vehicle means more than the amount. I have seen some with less than half this mileage that are not nearly as good. This car is so good that it is clear that it was driven gently and maintained well. It is powered by a four cylinder, double overhead cam, fuel injected engine. The engine starts instantly and runs perfectly. It revs smoothly and idles like new. It has recently received new spark plus, air filter, oil and oil filter. The timing belt was replaced about 30,000 miles ago. Recommended change interval is 70,000 miles. I took a compression reading and got the following readings from from to back: 145, 145, 146 and 144 lbs. The engine is sound, no leaks, no oil burning, revs quickly to red-line in all gears (except that I have not done so in fifth to avoid speeding tickets). This car meets Colorado emission requirements. Most recent certificate is dated Sept. 6, 2011 (I just got it done. This is the inspection referred to.). The transmission is a five-speed manual that shifts positively and easily and holds all gears. The clutch is smooth with lots of life left. While the car has 110,000 mile on it, they have been mostly easy over-the-road miles, so the clutch saw little use except for shifting. The clutch starts to catch close to the floorboard and has only allowable play (about 1/2"). There are no oil leaks anywhere on this car. Handling is superb. This thing is a real fun car to drive. Very precise. The suspension and running gear are great. There is no looseness or slop in the ball joints or steering gear or tie rods. The four wheel disc brakes work well and have plenty of lining left. The exhaust system has been replaced and is only about two years old. The top is only about one year old and was professionally installed. It has good tires and the original Fiat wheels all around. The interior is the original beautiful baby blue leather with no rips, tears or bubbles. It has the original carpets on the floors and in the trunk. It has a chrome rack on the trunk lid and new trunk lid springs to hold it up. I have a complete service manual to go with this vehicle as well as a complete wiring diagram and a new owners manual. I originally purchased this car to prepare for and run in Rocky Mountain Vintage Car Club events. I performed all the testing and examinations referenced in this dissertation and found the vehicle more than suitable for that endeavor. Unfortunately, personal circumstances interfered and made that dream unlikely. That is why I am offering it for sale. When I first purchased this car it had a few minor faults. The horns did not work due to internal shorts. I replaced them with working horns from another 124 Fiat. The engine cooling fan did not run due to a dirty ground connection. I repaired this. Same with the windshield washer. The glove box latch was hard to work due to dirt. I cleaned and lubricated it and it is now fine. The trunk lid springs had fatigued. I replaced them. The radio had been replaced with an Alpine unit. It needed to be straightened, so I did that. I do not find anything else wrong. This car can be driven right away. I checked the North American Dealers Association (NADA) web site and find the 1982 Fiat Spider 2000 convertible valued as follows: Private sale LOW retail is $5,250, average retail, $8,750 and high retail $16,300. This car is definitely on the upper mid-range. The buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping. Byers is located 35 miles east of Denver on Rt. 70. (I am willing to deliver this car to a location withing 100 miles of Byers provided to buyer pays the estimated costs of me doing so.) There's still a lot of summer and early fall left to have fun driving topless! (and the heater works well for winter driving).
