Vehicle Detail
THIS IS A 3 DAY NO RESERVE AUCTION THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC, FUEL INJECTED 1981 AIR COOLED VOLKSWAGEN VANAGON GL WESTFALIA WITH 73,000 ORIGINAL MILES. IT APPEARS TO HAVE NEVER BEEN CAMPED IN AND THE STOVE, SINK AND REFRIGERATOR HAVE NEVER BEEN USED. IT HAS BEEN STORED FOR OVER 21 YEARS INSIDE A WAREHOUSE AND HAS NOT BEEN REGISTERED OR ON THE ROAD SINCE 1990. The second owner purchased in May 1985; in 1990 he put perfectly well running van in a commercial warehouse building that he owned. During that time the engine was not run, nor was it driven in any way. It appears as if some mice were in the wiring although I inspected and it is not bad and the battery has gone dead so it is NOT currently running. I did take a wrench to the crankshaft and the engine is loose and not frozen. Understand I am not a mechanic but I truly believe once the negative cable is reattached to the starter and a new battery is installed the motor will turn-over, not run, but turn over. Of course there may be some other wiring after 20 years of sitting that may need to be connected or replaced. On another positive note; a body shop that was renting a space in the building, removed the front and rear window and all the interior panels and painted the van with a fresh coat of OEM Ivory Beige. The intention was to restore the van and put it back on the road; but it continued to sit. It was when the space the van was occupying was to become a dance studio that the owner needed the van gone......and here we are. The Good · Engine was rebuilt by well-known VW shop in Orange County, CA at about 65K mile · Interior upholstery is in immaculate condition, no rips tears or sun damage to drapes · Sink and Stove appear to have NEVER been used; in as new condition · Refrigerator appear to have NEVER been used; also in as new condition · There are no indications that the vehicle has been in any accident · Fresh paint job; no dents, no scratches, very nice condition · No rust since kept inside and in California · Windows all open and closes very well · Sliding door opens and closes very well and Rear Hatch opens very well and struts hold up hatch as new The Bad · All rubber is dry rotted and will need to be replaced · As stated in listing; it is NOT currently running · Pop Tent fabric is torn and will need to be replaced; cost about $219 at busdepot.com · Tires are old and would not be good to drive on. I have a set of 15" VW wheels/tires 195-65-15 with hubcaps off a 2007 VW Jetta that are included · Heater Control Face Plate and levers, Ashtray and Stereo are all missing from the dash panel · Rear view mirror fell apart when being moved due to age · Rear chrome bumper is missing end caps and rubber strip Rear and Front windows were removed for painting and will need to be reinstalled with new rubber $39ea All windows have old window tint on them that is peeling in spots throughout · Interior panel vinyl has either peeled off or is peeling and will need to be replaced This is a great example of a 1981 Westy that should not need too much work to get back on the road. The paint and body are in excellent condition and the interior is basically like new. It is amazing to think that after 30 years you could potentially be the first to fire up the stove and use the sink and refrigerator in this van. I almost forgot that the front seats swivel. Parts for this van are very inexpensive; especially when purchased from busdepot.com. As with any vehicle that has been sitting for 21 years the brakes pads, brake cylinders, brake lines and fuel lines should all be replaced. It would also be important to replace all filters and fluids; the gas tank should be steam cleaned as well. A thorough inspection of all wiring and the above items being replaced would be very important for safety reasons. All of the information in this listing is to the best of my knowledge. The vehicle is being sold "as is". PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON PURCHASING TO REGISTER IN CALIFORNIA. I contacted DMV and since the van has not been on the road for over 16 years it has dropped off the grid. This means once you get ready to put on the road there will be no fines and you will be registering like a new vehicle. It does have a clear California title. I have 100% positive feedback so please bid with confidence. I will not accept any bid with a feedback rating of less than 25. If you want to bid and do not meet the minimum please contact me via E bay and I will let you know if I will allow. If you bid without contacting me, I will cancel your bid. Sorry, have had way too many people flake on me and it isn't fair to the others that are bidding Vehicle is listed locally so bidding can end at any time.
