Vehicle Detail

This is a 1968 Porsche 912. I bought this car as a parts car for a 911. It was not running when I bought it and had no engine. The previous owner removed the 912 motor mounts and installed 911 mounts and put a 911 motor it it and was using it for autocross. I'm guessing it eventually got disqualified for safety violations and that is when the owner decided to sell. I bought it, used it for parts then turned around and fixed it up to run again. I installed a 1968 VW bug type 1 motor in it. It is a running car. I would not qualify it as a safe running car but it does run and it is drivable. It is registered in the state of California and has a clear title. I drive it around occasionally on the weekends for looks. Not the looks that you'd expect. LOL! I have written the words "rust free California car" on the side, just to prove a point, since that term is typically used to sell cars even though it is complete BS. Anybody that tells you the car has no rust hasn't found it yet. Anyway, the car is supposed to be a one owner car for nearly it's whole life until I bought it. I've actually taken an honorable mention at local people's choice concourse event LOL! The cars original color was Polo Red. It looks like it's just been shot with black rattle can paint and that's actually what I use to touch it up. I had full intentions of restoring this car to concourse condition but I have too many projects at this point. The car doesn't really have any history. I purchased it from a PCA club member 8 years ago as a roller. All I know is it was used as an autocross car and the owner told me they owned the car since it was new. The actual mileage is not known. What shows on the clock is 24802. Serial number says 12801329 NOTES: This car has issues. No doubt. But it does have possibilities. If possible, I would prefer a local buyer or somebody within California. PROS: The car is drivable and has a clear title. The cars brakes are in working condition and do stop the car. The car has fully working electrical. All lights work including headlights, running, turn signals. I think one reverse light is out. Clock is fast LOL The car has all it's floors intact and in good condition The car has it's front suspension pan intact and in good condition There are still some good usable original parts on this car that are hard to find including original zinc horn grilles. Front window and seal in good condition Side window seals in good condition I've modified the car to accept later model seats (not in good condition) obviously earlier seats will bolt right in. I have the original 912 engine mounts if you'd like to convert the car back to a 912. They come with the car. The engine is currently 1968 VW bug motor. Runs really well. It's a fun car. It does have issues with gas pickup sometimes where the car will just stop after driving 10 miles or so. I just pull over. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and then start it up and run again. I haven't had time to look at it but my guess is a dirty gas tank. CONS: The car has significant rust damage to the drivers side drip rail. See pictures. We are not sure how this was done and the previous owner wouldn't elaborate when pressed. It looks like the car might have rolled at some point but the inside roof says NO. There is not roof damage at all and no signs of a previous repair. Headliner is torn and will need to be replaced. Rear package tray is rusted. Not as bad as I've seen other cars but it is rusted pretty bad. Rear window seal is in tack but needs to be replaced There are areas all over the car where paint is lifting and or bondo is coming loose. Rear drivers side quarter was damaged and bent. Does not affect the driving of the car. The car needs a restore and/or full bare metal repaint at some point. Or just a cover of a newer coating. The current late model 911 seats are shot and need a recover. I can throw in seat covers. I've kept it around as a knock around driver for weekend drives to the auto parts store or to a friends house or just to make people laugh. I think it's a good possibility for restore and would like to see it go to a better home. The car is sold as is where is with no warranty written or implied. Seller is fully responsible for taking care of shipping. If there are any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me any questions.
