2005 Mercedes Benz C230 SPORT Kompressor ***NOTE: Vehicle is located in Huntsville, Alabama! The C230 sedan comes with a automatic that can be either straight automatic or you can shift gears if you want to. It also has a button that you can push to select either cruising or sport driving. The car has a 1.8L supercharged TURBO engine, 17" wheels and sport suspension. Not only does it look good but's it's fun to drive and very economical for gas. We average around 32 MPG the way we drive. This has been an extremely reliable Mercedes until recently. The car recently developed an engine problem which has prompted us to sell as is. We we're going to trade the car in for a new C250 when they come out next month, but the engine problem has slightly changed our plans. We came home from work a couple of weeks ago and parked the car. When we tried to start the car the next morning it acted like the timing was off and wouldn't start. There was no oil issue or malfunction light/ code and car ran great prior to parking. We had the car towed to a nearby shop and when the removed the valve cover they discovered the timing cam gear was rounded causing the timing to be off. The shop recommended rather than spending the money trying to figure out what was wrong with it, to just put in another used motor, which can cost around $2000. They felt this was the best approach, rather than finding out what caused the timing gear to become rounded. They thought that since the failure wasn't obvious it could be anything. The car turns over and the top end is getting oil. the only obvious issue is the rounded gears on the cam shaft. This would make a great car for someone who had the mechnical ability to either fix it or replace the motor. I can troubleshoot and work on just about anything and after look at the problem, I don't understand how it could be something major like an engine change since the car ran fine before it was parked. Anyway our loss you gain. Don't miss this great deal. UPDATE: Just talked to a Master Mercedes mechanic that my father and law knows in Florida and sent him pics of the cam gear. his assement is the timing gear had been wearing for some time most likely due to timing chain slack. He said it made since that the chain would jump timing either when the car was turned off or when the car was started. Should just need head work or a reman head, new timing chain and timing chain tensioner or just put in a replacement motor. I'll try to post the pics I sent him of the timing chain and rounded timing gear. He said these are very tough motors and well made. The only other issues with the car is it will need new tires as it is that time, and the interior door handle plastic is broke and has been glued back on. This is a great driving and looking car at a fraction of the price of the starting bids of simular C230's on E-BAY.
