Vehicle Detail
1970 Triumph Spitfire Mark III. Last of the roundtail models with the desirable 1296 cc engine with a single carb. I have bought and sold cars off of ebay, so I'm going to be as honest as I can here, probably at my disadvantage. First off, this is NOT a show car. The paint is tired, the upholestery and carpet have some wear and a tear or two, and the car lacks any real detailing. If you want a show car, quit reading and start looking at Spitfires in the 7-10000 dollar range. What this car is is a fun little car to cruise around in that is mechanically sound, and quaint enough to attract attention wherever it goes. The body is solid, with evidence of some work being done in the recent past, the motor runs like it was rebuilt yesterday, and the trans and driveline work as intended. What doesn't work are the emergency flashers, the emergency brake, and the heater. The heater is all there, All cables and wires are accounted for, I just never bothered hooking it up since this was strictly a summer cruiser. If you wanted to take the time to hook it up, I believe it would work. The hoses are hooked to it, and it does not leak. The wipers work too well. Sometimes they don't want to shut off!. Don't you just love British electrics! All lights work as intended, which is a major accomplishment on a British Car over 40 years old. Recent new parts include a complete clutch set up, with the plate, disc, bearing, fork etc, and all front end components, including ball joints, trunions, etc. Tires have less than 1000 miles on them also. The top on the car is OK, but if you drive this car in the rain, you will get wet. The top has some minor pinholes, and the front seal is non-existent. Windows are clear. Again, I drove the car on warm sunny days. The top was an after-thought. Bumpers were recently replated, as was the luggage rack on the deck lid. Gauges work, but I believe the speedo is less than accurate. The odometer shows 37,000 miles, but there is no way that is even close to being right. If you are local (detroit area) feel free to come and look. If not, feel free to ask any questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability. This car is basically a slightly over-powered go-kart, and as such, is a blast to drive. In response to many inquiries, the only body issue I'm aware of with this car (Aside from some dings and dents) is that the drivers door doesn't close very well or really align. Everything seems to be solid, so I don't think this is the dreaded "Spitfire Sag", but I'm not a body man. I'm betting door was tweaked sometime in its life, or the hinges may be shot. that's my best guess. Car is strictly driver quality. Its 41 years old, with who knows how many owners and how colorful a history, so don't expect anything close to perfection. I don't want anyone disappointed, so I'm being painfully honest here. Car also has custom Burl Elm dash. That is the only custom feature on the car that I am aware of. I am happy to answer any questions or assist a potential buyer in any way, but if you have no real interest in bidding on the car, please don't waste my time. I have even had people bid and then ask me to cancel their bid a day or two later. Please realize that my time is just as valuable as yours, and I'll help any way I can, but I would appreciate not having to deal with tire kickers and game players. Thanks for your time on my venting!
