Vehicle Detail

Up for auction for your consideration here on Ebay is a successful and well known Austin Healey Bug-Eye Sprite with extensive race history from the late 60s through the early 70s.The car was raced by owners Bill and Barbara Foster in Massachusetts and racked up an impressive series of wins that places it as one of the winningest Bug-Eyes of its time. The husband and wife duo were virtually unbeatable in this little sports car and the Record of Accomplishments flyer boasts the racing history ,period photos and trophies acquired. Please read on for more information about this car. History. This 1961 Bug-Eye Sprite was campaigned in Massachusetts from 1967 to 1972.After Bill retired from racing he moved his family to Southern California. He used the Bug-Eye as his every day driver maintaining it to a high degree of tune.He fitted a set of Keystone aluminum mag wheels. The car still maintains its original set of wide rim steel wheels that were used for racing.Upon road use the original racing roll bar was removed but was saved and will be sold with the car.Bill was promoted at work and awarded a company car,as a result the bugeye was retired from street use.The fuel tank was drained and the car was stored in Bills garage.I purchased the car from Bills family a few years ago and removed it from Bills garage to my own, and is now being offered for sale for the first time. Mechanicals and Recent work. The car retains its original 948cc engine.I have replaced the water pump and all the hoses.I have rebuilt the carbs, changed the oil and started the engine ,it fired right up and ran great.I kept the engine running for about 45 mins.At full running temp.it maintained 55 lb oil pressure at idle with no noises or surprises.A really strong engine.I changed all the brake wheel seals. The brake and clutch hydraulics are great and up and running.. I fitted a pair of new tires to the front of the car.The back tires hold air but will need replacing. The car needs a new ignition/light switch ( available from Moss Motors or Victoria British) also the gas tank will need cleaning out. There is a little rust and body filler in the rockers but it looks like an easy fix.It has a good presentable interior and the seats are comfortable. It also has a period Les Leston Wood Rim Steering wheel. Additional Items. It comes with the original racing hardtop in exceptional condition( it was stored inside all its life). With side screens. A clear California Title. The 5 original racing steel wheels.(I will remove the worn tires.) The original racing roll bar. The 8 page booklet detailing the accomplishments, period photos, lists of sponsors photos of trophies. The original Ca Pink slip in Bill Fosters name. 1961 Bug-Eye Sprite. Vin # 9cgdh16365. Ca Lic No 767 HOD Overall this is an extremely rare opportunity to purchase an important Bug Eye Sprite with documented racing history. This vehicle although needing some restoration work ,is being offered in its preserved original state accompanied with its racing equipment and special hardtop. Its eligibility for future events could be extremely promising given its documented and proven past record.
