Vehicle Detail
This is a lovely, eye catching (lipstick-red with black interior), 1980 Mercedes 450SL, it is original, well maintained, and has the chrome wheel option. I am the 3rd owner of the car, it has 43.8k miles. The original owners used it for 20 years to drive to their beach house. It was purchased by a manager at Intel for his wife as her “fun” car. Two months later they were divorced, and he kept the car. It was garaged, and he drove it a bit in the summer. When he remarried the new wife wouldn’t drive a car purchased for the previous wife, so when Intel relocated me to Miami in 2007, I bought it from him. Since the car had not been driven regularly for several years, it was my everyday car for about 18 months and I have invested in various mechanical repairs (~8k to date). I purchased a second car in 2009 for everyday driving to keep the miles down on the Mercedes. After 22 years at Intel, I changed careers and have decided to spend a year volunteering in India; even though I adore the car, it is time to let her go. While the car is sold “as is”, the current mechanic assures me that the car is good running order and is willing to talk to anyone who bid on the car. I hope she finds to a good home. It is my understanding that 1980 was the last year the 450sl was manufactured and the last Mercedes model to enjoy a cast iron block. Thanks for your interest! After winning the bid: buyer is responsible to arrange pick-up of vehicle within 7 days. On Aug-12-11 at 13:25:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: I replaced the alternator yesterday ($400); mechanic pleased with how the motor is running and commented (again) that this is clearly the original engine. Also, I have the original owner’s purchase receipt (woman in Louisiana), transfer of title DMV notification to 2nd owner (Portland, Oregon), their misc. maintenance records, warranty info, owner's manual, maintenance booklet and what looks like the Mercedes 1980 sales book. I also have the original first-aid kit (unopened) that I'm told came with the car. Car goes into storage on Monday waiting for its new home.
