Vehicle Detail
Marlene, The Blue Angel”, a beautiful 1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL Roadster, has resided in West Chester, Pennsylvania with her loving current owner since the late autumn of 2001.She was purchased from Tim Holt, a local Porche specialist dealer (and former professional racecar driver!). She is in VERY good condition except that her blue canvas tophas a small hole which needs to be professionally ‘patched’. Her original red leather seats are in excellent condition because they’ve been covered with custom-dyed, slate-bluesheepskin covers for many, many years. The current seat-covers were custom made by Star Quality, a vintage Mercedes parts & accessories specialist. Marlene also has a beautiful, original‘Pagoda’ style hardtop with a white leather liner. She has an automatic transmission and she does not have air conditioning. Her engine, brakes, transmission, exhaust, electrical & mechanical systemsare in excellent condition with the small exception that one of her dashboard air-flow controls needs repair. Her clock still keeps perfect time, her radio still works (on one or two stations), and the solid wood components atop her dashing dashboard are also in very good condition. Her original dark grey steering wheel was replaced by a very distinctive ‘talc white’ version shipped from Germany where it was located as original factory stock. Her loving owner must sadly part with Marlene (against his will) because of a ‘forced’ early retirement soon to come. He can say that the reserve to be met at auction is most definitely below her 2001 appraised value of $32,000. She comes with a binder book of the restoration receipts, kept by her previous (IPO millionaire) owner. Best of all, in addition to her head-turning elegance and precise & powerful road handling capabilities, Marlene is wonderfully rust-free in her body & undercarriage… something quite rare in a roadster of this vintage!! I HAVE ALL RECIEPTS FROM RESTORATION SHOWING ALL WORK. THIS CAR IS RUST FREE !! HAVE MANY ADDITIONAL PICTURES. Thanks For Looking.
