This is my 1982 Volkswagen Diesel Caddy that I purchased new from the VW dealership in 1983. I have modified extensively through the years in an effort to make it more drivable and enjoyable. Nothing wild or over the top has been done to it though. Since I have had this since it was new, I remember how gutless it was on the freeway. Sometimes, when it was windy, I couldn’t even maintain 65MPH. But then came the turbo! That one little thing TOTALLY transformed this little truck into a 100MPH monster, seriously. The intercooler and large oil cooler lets you hammer down the freeway all day long at 85MPH in 100 degree heat without even budging the temp gauge. I used to commute 100 miles a day in this little truck and she has never let me down. This has been my 2nd hauling stuff/loaner vehicle for many years, recently, I gave it to my student who has not a lick of mechanical aptitude. One must be able to wrench on their own vehicles to keep these Caddy’s going so at the first thing that went wrong, my student just let her sit. This is the reason that I am letting this little gem go. I don’t live close enough to economically keep this truck running. It will need the battery recharges and new diesel but it was running until just a few months ago when my student let it sit too long while away on an adventure spanning several months. I know there are a lot of caddy lovers out there that would just love to get their hands on a nicely maintained caddy that is 100% rust free and unmolested. Mileage 244,477. 5 Speed transmission. Front disk brakes. Rear window slides open. Rear tailgate intact and latches with the stock lever. New engine installed by dealership at 155k. Full turbo setup from a turbo Jetta installed by professional VW shop. Full intercooler installed next to radiator with 2” airflow stainless pipes. K&N remote air filter. 5 quart oil cooler installed in custom fiberglass front bumper, oil cooler has thermostat built into oil .junction plate. Recent gas model clutch installed. 2” exhaust with small glass pack lets the turbo spool up quickly but still be quiet. Retro Jensen stereo cassette correct for year of manufacture. Dakota Digital Tachometer conversion installed where clock used to be next to speedo. Turbo max boost (adjustable) warning light and buzzer on dash. Very desirable wing windows that open and latch with the “good” pivot points not the glued on version that always breaks and make a ton of wind noise. 3-Gauge center console with volt meter, oil pressure and clock. Recent new headliner installed. Engine oil always changed at 5k with all synthetic Castrol Syntec oil. Truck is located in the Portland OR area and I have the pink slip free and clear.
