AMC RWB REBEL "THE MACHINE' NO RESERVE NO RESERVEHere is a very rare opportunity to bid on, and win a gorgeous example of, complete, numbers matching, RWB 1970 AMC Rebel "Machine" In the late 1960's and early 1970's, the American Muscle car market was highly competitive. With each manufacturer trying to out-horsepower the other, American Motors Corporation joined this bandwagon with a vengeance, their advertising declaring "We just haven't been the same since we discovered racing."In 1970, AMC introducing the highly collectible, limited production version dubbed "THE MACHINE" "The Machine" was introduced at the National Hot Rod Association's World Championship Drag Race in Dallas, Texas during October 1969 and was clearly aimed at the drag racing market. Looking every bit like an aggressive raving machine on steroids, The "Rebel Machine" was equipped with an impressive V-8 (developed by AMC and Hurst Performance Research) mated to a close-ratio Borg Warner T-10 4-speed with Hurst shift linkage. This was the most powerful engine ever used in an AMC product that was sold to the public. This stunning, beautiful, rare, original numbers matching example of a RWB "REBEL MACHINE" is very strong, very clean and very, very mean. Approximatley 955 of these beauties, of the total 2326 examples, were produced in a bold patriotic color combination of a promary white color with red, white and blue stripes, It was only produced in 1970, making this car a rare, hard to find classic collectible for the accomplished American Muscle Car collector. This was part of the 290/304/343/360/390/401 family of mocern V-8s developed by AMC in the mid-sixties. With 430 foot-pounds of torque, it could move the 3905-pound Machine (cited in Illustraded AMC Buyer's Guide) from 0 to 60 in under 6.8 seconds and could cover the quarter mile in 14.49 seconds. Top speed 125 mph. As a point of reference, a 335-horsepower, 383-equipped Road Runner went from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds and cover the quarter mile in 15 seconds flat. Description This is a 53K miles, garage kept, true time capsule. It's in excellent condition. I didn't say perfect. I said excellent. It's solid on the inside, the outside and the underside. An area approximatley 2" in diameter was showing evidence of "bubbling" under the blue paint on the driver's side rocker panel. This area is on the very underside and can't be seen unless you're on the ground, or the car is on a lift. Everything electric works. The chrome and trim are exceptional. Interior is very clean, virtually damage free and all there. There is a hairline crack in the windshield. It is not in the line of sight and is hard to see, so I opted to retain the original glass as opposed to changing it. There are 2 small hard to see cracks in the plastic on top of the dash, which are not visible from the driver's seat. The tires are very good and have been recently replaced. This car was meant to run. It's almost impossible not to leave a very extensive patch of rubber each time you take off! For that matter, it will leave a substatial scratch when you get on it in 2nd and 3rd gear! Power steering, power brakes and clutch are working perfectly. It runs and drives as it was meant to. Extremly fast, and is sounds absolutely awesome. This car needs very little if anything, unless you want a # 1. As is, this rare classic would fit right in at any local car show. No doubt it would be the only RWB "REBEL MACHINE" there. Take a good look at the photos (others available upon request) and you decide. Or come take a look in person. This classic can be driven anywhere with confidence. This car is without exception, pure, raw Amercian Muscle. All the hard to replace pieces exclusive to the "Machine" are still in place on the car. Including the factory medium rise intake manifold, special factory free flow exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipes, and the hood-mounted tachometer. The original interior glass, wheels, functioning vacuum ram air hood scoop, even the original unused canister used to inflate the space saver spare tire is there. All of this and the correct 25A paint code. The original AutoLite 4-barrel carburetor is included but is not being used in favor of a newer, better built carburetor. Included with this offer is the original owner's manual, service manual, dealer's brochure, and a number of other date-correct magazine publications advertising "THE MACHINE".
