NO RESERVE AUCTION - RARE 1959 Volkswagen Transporter Panel Bus - US buyers qualify for free shipping in the contiguous 48 states. This bus is a great looking and fun bus to drive and it turns heads and starts conversations wherever it goes. It is in good shape overall for a bus that was born in March of 1959. The bus looks great, runs great, and is very fun to own and drive and even more fun to show off. The bus has some original equipment and I replaced those things that needed it with new parts. It is rare to find original parts on these buses since they were often taken apart or converted or dumped in a field and parts stripped off of them. Original parts usually means that this bus was taken care of over the years - which is pretty rare - especially given that all of the window glass is original and not cracked or damaged, the safaris were added by me. The speedometer is dated 3/1959 which matches the month and year the bus was “born.” The knobs, steering wheel, horn, and rear tailight all appear to be original. The tailight has the original glass with cracks but I kept it and added a reproduction to the passenger side. The new owner can keep this and other parts of the bus original, go back to the original color (dove blue) or dress up the bus, put a quality restoration paint job on it and turn it into a show quality bus. Even the dome light is original and I left it alone as it is uncracked and still works with the original switch - pretty cool and pretty rare. This bus has all the character of over 50 years and it had some wear and tear when I got it. It looks like someone used it for a camper and I thought it was cool so I left some of the parts in place, but they can easily be removed by the new owner. I mainly addressed safety, body, paint and replaced any worn parts, refreshed the 1600 single port engine, converted it from 6 volt to 12 volt and made sure all the brakes were new with new shoes, hardware, hoses, wheel cylinders, and brake lines where needed. These buses are prone to rust so when I got it I made sure there were no rust problems and I also coated all the usual areas with a well known rust inhibitor. It wasn’t cheap, but it will help ensure another 52 years for this bus. This is one rare and unique and very cool bus. It’s not a restoration and that means you can drive it anywhere, any time, and park it in the lot when you get there. The bus runs great and stops great - and it looks awesome, and is really fun to drive especially when the cool breeze comes through the safari windows. Here is a list of what’s been done to the bus since I've had it: New: Driver side door handle Passenger side door handle Safari Windows (Stainless Stell from Wolfgang) Paint Rear Bumper and mounting brackets Engine Seals Door Seals Brake Shoes Brake Hardware Brake Wheel Cylinders Distributor Coil Starter Battery Spark Plugs Front Bench Seat Cover (TMI) Front Cab Panels Cargo Door Handles Tail Light Headlight Seals Bullet Turn Signal Seals Upgraded: 6 volt to 12 volt I have tried to represent the bus as is, where is, to the best of my ability but keep in mind it is over 50 years old and I did not have it restored so if you have any questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer all inquiries. Please do not bid unless you have the funds to buy the bus. This bus can be delivered for free anywhere in the contiguous United States so enjoy the bidding and once it is won and paid for it will show up at the new owners door shortly thereafter. The bus is for sale through other channels and therefore I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Clear Title in Hand. This is a chance to own part of a really cool chapter in our automotive history. Times were simpler, you could choose to fix your car yourself, make it a customized bus, a camper, put big wheels and tires, haul just about anything, and just drive it for the fun of driving it. You still can., You could drive across country, camp, use it to deliver goods and services, and maybe even take it to music festivals - who knows, maybe that’s what is was used for. Pretty cool that some of these are still around and with this one you don’t have to take a rusty old shell and put thousands of dollars and months or years before you get to turn the key and turn the heads - you can have all of that delivered to you so good luck and happy bidding!
