Vehicle Detail
This is my 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel. These iconic classic cars are getting more and more difficult to find, and I believe this is the nicest one that you will find for sale anywhere. It has 105,248 original miles since new. I am a specialty car dealer- I only deal in hard-to-find vehicles, and this one certainly qualifies. I searched and searched, and found this car in the hands of the ORIGINAL private owner, who bought the car brand new in 1981. I have the original OH title from when the car was sold new. This car had been in climate-controlled storage for almost 20 years, hence the low mileage. Since it was brought out of storage, I have had the timing belt and tensioner replaced, plus done a flush of all fluids, replaced all filters including the fuel and oil filters, and changed the oil with Rotella Diesel oil. This car has been gone over carefully and it runs and drives like a dream. The engine starts up perfectly and does not smoke and it runs very smoothly. The transmission shifts perfectly and the clutch is tight. The car runs, drives and handles great. I would trust this Rabbit to drive to California and back- no worries. It is peppy and fun to drive- anyone who says these cars are slow must have been driving an automatic. The car has the 1.6 naturally aspirated 4-cylinder diesel engine and 4-speed manual transmission. This car turns heads everywhere it goes, partly because of the retro powder-blue color, and also because most people haven't seen one of these in a generation! The interior is excellent. The seats have no rips or tears and the foam is still in great shape. The carpets are good. The interior looks much better in person than in the photos, I think. The body is straight, solid and clean. The paint is original, and it does have some minor rust spots that have been brush-touched. Overall the body and underside are very solid and in great shape for the age. Compare this to any other diesel Rabbit and I'm sure you will be impressed. All of the guages work, including temp, fuel, clock, speedo and odometer/trip odometer. There is no cloth on the headliner, it is the fiberboard headliner only. Part of the vinyl that covers the dash is cracked. Keep in mind that while this is probably the best-condition Rabbit you will find, it is far from showroom condition. This car is 30 years old and it shows normal wear/tear and signs of use. This car is stored in my building in Willoughby, OH.
