Vehicle Detail
Howdy folks, Wammo here. I'm selling my running, black, 1965 Imperial Crown. This the same type of car as the "Black Beauty," used for the recent Green Hornet film. The old TV series that starred Van Williams and Bruce Lee used a '66. There are only a few differences between the '65 and '66. It's the same body type. According to the Imperial Club's Judging Your Imperial's Condition page, I would rank my car as a 3.5. Here's a link http://www.imperialclub.com/Yr/Condition.htm and a link to the price guide http://www.imperialclub.com/Yr/1965/Prices.htmShe has a bit of rust on the trunk and some on the panel beneath the rear windshield. She has no other rust. The odometer works. She has 38,192 miles on her. I once asked a mechanic if he thought the odometer had been turned over and he told me, "You've got no rust on your frame and your doors shut perfectly. There's no way your odometer has turned over."I bought her around 1998 from a friend of mine here in Austin that sells vintage cars. It had one previous owner, who parked it in his garage after an engine fire. After the owner passed on, my friend bought it, got it running and sold it to me. It still is completely original except for the fuel and water pump. The front seat is in rough shape but the back seat is good. The headliner is in great condition as is the control panel. There is a crack up on the top of the dashboard. The front windshield is cracked. The rear passenger door's latch has come apart from the arm inside the door, so the door panel needs to be pulled off and it has to be reattached before that door will open. The front driver's side window motor is broken. All other power windows work. Her paint original and in fair condition. She has all original steel but some panel repair. All of the chrome looks good. The wipers work but need new blades. She has all four hubcaps. The brakes work. The a/c blows but no cold air. The heater has been disconnected. She has a 413 Chrysler V8 engine and the tranny still works great. Any demolition derby fan can tell you that it's very difficult to bend the frame of an old Imperial. There's a massive amount of steel in this car, she weighs two and a half tons. The first owner installed an amp meter and an FM radio under the dash. The AM radio has a really cool feature, there is a button next to the brights button on the floor that changes the radio station. So you can change channels while you're driving without taking your hands off of the wheel. I also bought the optional reverb unit that links into the stereo system. This option allows you to add reverb to the radio by pulling down on the rear fader knob. I never had it installed. It's pictured here. The radio antenna still raises and lowers automatically but only goes as far down as the photo shows. I have the original showroom brochure that came with the car. It comes with vintage '65 Texas plates. This is the car I wrote the song, "Parade" about. Here's a video of the song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2DkiI5QCII A picture of her trunk is also featured in the disc tray of my CD, Faster Than The Speed Of Suck. I hate to sell her but my family is moving and I can't take her with me. Besides, I'm not much of a gear-head and she needs someone who is going to love and take care of her. This car has amazing grace, style and beauty. It kind of looks like a mafia staff car or maybe something one of LBJ's buddy's would have driven. I once read that the drummer for the Ramones drove one for a while. I bought her with some of the advance money I received for Faster Than The Speed Of Suck. Mike Henry, owner/manager of the Electric Lounge and I were riding around in her and he turned to me and said, "You know what? Poetry bought you this car." He knew that I had lived in a downtown rehearsal space with no running water for years. He had watched me struggle and he saw me make something of myself on my own terms. The whole thing reflected in his eyes at that moment. That was cool. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Good luck and happy ebaying.
