Vehicle Detail

This is a very rare XX Anniversary Edition, 1983 Buick Riviera I’m selling for a friend. This limited edition model celebrated the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the styling leader and very popular Bill Mitchell-designed 1963 Riviera. The XX Anniversary Edition was styled as a compliment to the two V-6 twin-turbocharged Indy 500 Pace cars which were convertibles. Former Indy car racer Duke Nalon was the driver of the primary Riviera Pace car for the 500 race. The XX Anniversary Edition came standard with the following equipment: • Real wire wheels with specific gold-toned center caps used only with the XX Riviera and these wheels • Special two-toned beige paint scheme in medium beige and cream beige • Anniversary grill with 24-carat gold-plated Riviera XX emblem • Front and rear bumper strips are brown with gold inserts • Rocker, belt and roof drip moldings are anodized dark brown • Fender, deck lid, side and grille emblems are 24-carat gold-plated with the Riviera XX designation • Hood emblem and wheel centers are gold colored • Seats and door panels are upholstered in beech, glove-soft leather with beautiful color-coordinated stitching. • Seats have suede inserts in dark brown with each seat numbered according to the production number of the car • 140-mph speedometer on the XX model only • Rear window defroster • Gran Touring suspension with four wheel disc brakes • Dual electric mirrors Real English walnut wood veneer door trim plates were standard. Included was a real wood steering wheel with leather grips and 26 oz wool carpeting hand made in Germany. The plush brown carpeting also covers the lower part of each door panel, the entire trunk (sides, back, front, floor, underside of trunk lid, spare tire cover) and the entire passenger compartment on floor surfaces and lower back part of the front seats. On the underside of the trunk lid in the center is a gold stitched leather emblem that said Riviera XX. (See photo). On the glove box is a brass plaque with the Riviera XX Twentieth Anniversary Riviera script and the Indianapolis 500 speedway logo. This car comes fully equipped with the following: Power steering, power brakes, 6-way power drivers seat, 6-way power passenger seat plus power reclining seatback, AM-FM stereo cassette radio with graphic equalizer, scan-seek, dolby noise reduction, integrated power booster, 6 station preset buttons, 6 speakers and digital LED display, rear window defogger, Tilt wheel, cruise control, lighted passenger-side visor vanity mirror, right and left side remote outside rearview mirrors, power door locks, factory air-conditioning (recent new components), custom fitted dash panel cover in color-coordinated brown to match the interior. Recent battery and optional 307 V8 engine. The car currently is riding on a set of four Uniroyal white wall tires with correct vintage Riviera wire wheel covers. In addition, the car comes with the four original OEM factory wire wheels and caps PLUS four EXTRA NOS new-in-the-box XX wheel hub caps, one of which is pictured in this auction. These NOS caps cost the 2nd owner $500 when purchased many years ago. The original wheels were rarely used on the car and are in good condition. There is also an extra gold dash plaque new in an unopened GM package specific to the XX Anniversary Riviera that goes with the car. This particular car has 41,622 original verifiable miles on it. It was bought by the present owner from a local Buick collector in late 2008. That collector bought the car from the previous (possibly original owner) in the Dallas, Texas area in October 1985 and has been driven very sparingly since then. It has always been stored inside adult-owned and driven. The car has a few issues that I will detail here. There are series of small pits in the paint over the driver’s side front wheel well. The inner wheel well fender on the same side sustained some damage at some point and part of it is missing. The mastic or rubber shroud on the same (left front) wheel well is missing. There is a vertical scratch in the paint on the right rear fender next to the edge of the deck lid. There are a few small pits in the paint on both doors. The rocker panel moulding at the left front behind the wheel well has pulled away from the body. The hood will not close properly without someone pressing down on the right rear corner. The hood and mechanism seem to look and operate okay. I believe with some proper lubricant and TLC this should be an easy fix. All of this is shown in the photos. The car has a replacement 307ci short block GM engine in it which was installed at 36,000 miles in July of 2010. Feel free to ask questions about anything concerning the car and I will do my best to answer your query. The XX Anniversary Riviera is a very elegantly- appointed car, rides beautifully and is every bit as quiet inside as any new car you can buy today. I rode in it this past weekend and can attest to that. Terms of sale: BIDDING - PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO BUY.
