Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is one of the most solid original, stock El Caminos on the road today. In the ebay listing guide, they prompt you to photograph "damage"- you'll notice there are none of these photos included. I purchased this car some years ago in North Carolina and then moved it to Florida. It has factory air, cruise control, power windows and locks, full gauge package, dual exhaust- all the options (except power seat I guess). Clear Florida title. While very good to begin with, I have made numerous repairs and improvements including a rebuilt Turbo 350 transmission (the original), finding and installing the stock El Camino Rally Wheels and white sidewall tires, new rear springs and airshocks, rebuilt stock Rochester 4bbl carb., complete paint from the body side moldings up, a new A/C compressor, drier and lines (converted to R134), and various steering, suspension, heating, cooling, pumps, gaskets...it's done. But...it's not perfect...the only thing I didn't get around to was the interior. It's not that it's ragged out (check the pics)- I just haven't got around to some of the typical El Camino stuff...dash pad, headliner, new rear curtain...that stuff. The seats and carpet are fine, all the gauges work except the voltmeter (do any of those work?) and the fuel gauge is tempermental. I'm waiting on a new speedo cable to bypass the cruise servo- the cruise'll work great for awhile and then suddenly the servo ties-up and snap the lower cable-end without warning. So if you want cruise it'll need a rebuilt servo, which "elcaminostore.com" now offers for around $100 and a new two-piece cable. I've bought a couple cables and I'm not wasting more cable-money. So the speedo will be working when you pick it up, but not the cruise (I didn't really use it much, anyway). Finally, the A/C blows cold but only through the lower vents...I think there's a vacuum switch behind the dash panel that'll correct this. The frame and body on this Elky are solid-solid-solid. If there's rust, I haven't seen it and I've been under this car on the lift many times. I had an old retired Chevy dealer come up to me and tell me he believed it had never even been hit- and I believe him. As far as the "Conquista" option thing, it had a decal on the tailgate when I bought it but I didn't replace it after the repaint. I painted it because the Florida sun had taken it's toll on the hood and roof. It now has a car cover, which I will include. I guess the two-tone paint codes on the data plate also confirm this option- but I'm not an expert. The original 305 V-8 4bbl runs nicely. It's definitely not fast- but pretty torquey and it sounds cool as heck with the dual exhaust dumping behind the rear wheels. I was going to crate motor it with a 350 eventually, but it'll be the next owner's call. I installed a Reese hitch to tow my 17' speedboat- also a tranny cooler. It pulls great with the factory airshocks pumped. So- there you go. I'm selling because I had to move to Ohio (long story) and I'm not going to put this neat old Elky through Ohio winters (it's my driver). Someone buy it, maybe finish what little needs to be done and enjoy driving it! ...I've gotten so many thumbs up and "nice cars" over the years...it's been great. I haven't seen another just like it...it looks better in person that even the pics. Don't worry, I haven't set the reserve unrealistically. I'm proud of it, but not stupid-proud. And of course, e-mail with any questions. Good Luck!
