Vehicle Detail
The market has spoken--my original asking price was obviously too high, so now I'm offering the same package for considerably less. This 1969 MG Midget is a complete, mostly disassembled car, plus many, many new, rebuilt, and used parts including a brand new Morrisservice 5-speed conversion kit with flywheel reworked by Paul Asgeirsson, along with the appropriate Datsun transmission. That's over $1000 worth before we even consider the rest of the package, but it’s a project that I have to admit I don’t have the time to finish, so I’m hoping to pass it along to someone who will do the work and get a great Little British Car in the process. Asking price is a fraction of what I have spent. The shell was pretty sound when I got it, and I have cut out all the rusted metal and welded in new metal patches, including the “doglegs” and outer rockers. Undercarriage patches have been seam sealed and painted and sprayed with rustproofing. I have begun to smooth out the more visible patched areas with epoxy (not Bondo) filler, but I’ll leave the finishing to you. (Please note that I am a hobbyist, not a professional welder or mechanic. I did the best job that I know how to do but I don’t claim that it’s up to professional standards.) Original color was apparently BRG; a previous owner painted it Tartan Red. All the original fenders (one has a bit of Bondo under the parking light), doors, and lids are included along with a couple of good extra doors. Windshield is useable but scratched. Top and tonneau are in excellent shape. There are no interior panels and no carpeting. Original seats were totally shot and were not ‘69 seats anyway; a nice pair of seats from a '91 Sentra SE-R are included (bases will have to be modified) along with a brand new set of Wet Okole seat covers. Includes original padded dash along with a metal dash and “crash pad” that you can use if you want the look of an earlier Midget. Original and some extra bumpers are included. They’re OK but show some pitting. The engine, SU carburetors, brake master cylinder, and clutch master cylinder have been rebuilt by me. (Same disclaimer as for bodywork.) The rebuilt engine has never been installed. This is a wire wheel car, and the wheels seem to be in very good shape. The tires look good, too, but they’re so old I’d replace them before driving the car. WHAT FOLLOWS IS ONLY A PARTIAL LIST: NEW parts include Brembo rotors, complete wiring harness, copper brake lines, fuel pump, license plate lamp, starter switch, dash toggle switch, instrument panel voltage regulator, brake cylinders, turn signal/horn switch, distributor cap, hood release cable, choke cable, clutch slave cylinder, and seat covers. REBUILT parts include engine, brake and clutch master cylinders, carbs, brake calipers, and water pump. GOOD USED parts include Isuzu starter for the transmission conversion, 4.22:1 differential, taillights, fan, heater fan, oil cooler, radio and radio console with speaker grille, GM alternator with adapter bracket, heater control cable, tachometer, speedometer, multi gauge, seats. Car has a clean Maryland title but is located at our summer home in Princeton, Maine. Since Princeton is a bit off the beaten path, I will put you up for a night at our local bed and breakfast if you pay the Buy It Now price. The shell with rear axle attached can be rolled around like a wheelbarrow by one man. It will also fit into the back of a full-size pickup (I know, I've done it). You’ll probably need another pickup or van for all the loose parts, or maybe a 12-foot U-Haul for the whole shebang. I WILL NOT SELL INDIVIDUAL PARTS SEPARATELY, but it occurred to me that someone may be interested in ALL of the Parts but not the shell. I will consider offers for the whole package, or for parts alone, no shell. I apologize for the horrible photos. The garage is crowded, which is one reason I’m selling this car.
