Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1993 Mercedes Benz 400E sedan finished in smoke silver with a parchment leather interior. This car was owned by a gent in Pittsburgh, Pa. until purchased by my cousin in 2009. I have records dating back to 1997 or so. The car currently has 125K miles, and just had new calipers, brake pads and front lower control arms installed. Prior owner had many things replaced under warranty at the Bobby Rahal Mercedes in Pittsburgh. Significant events include: Rebuilt transmission @ 52,882 (under MB warranty) New, not rebuilt engine @ 69, 507 (under MB warranty) Radiator in July 04 New Power Steering pump and hoses in January 04 Engine wiring harness in May 07 All the above were performed at Bobby Rahal MB. The good: The paint is great, body has very few scratches, all trim is installed, all glass is good. Interior is presentable, some wear on drivers seat and center armrest. Leather steering wheel is perfect. Later radio from a 2000 C class installed. Everything works: A/C, heat, cruise, windows, antenna, seats, vanities, locks, wiper, clock, sunroof, etc. Headlight doors (fog light covers) are very nice. Seat heaters! This car does not have the hated traction control! The bad: Tires are worn. Wear on driver's seat and armrest Car has rust under the chassis. See discussion below. Rev limiter cuts in at 4500 RPM Engine will run smoothly, then miss for a bit, then run well again. Both the rev limit and the miss issues were not present until after the car was stored for 6 months last year. The ugly: Rear subframe has structural rust at the two front mounts of the subframe itself Fuel and brake lines exhibit rust scaling. Suspension parts show noticeable rusting. Summary: How can a car that looks this nice, have so much rust..... In fairness, the rust is primarily concentrated on the detachable components, the body structure itself has little corrosion showing. The body has two rust bubble areas, on the forward lip of the right front fender and the other at the outside corner of the left rear tail light. (see pictures) I bought the car as a project, figured I'd replace the entire rear suspension and subframe with a rust free unit and install new brake and fuel lines. But I have too many projects and to little time, and I no longer have a use for the car (bought an E320 cab since) if I finished it. It's too nice for me to part out, the low mileage engine and transmission alone would be big pluses for anyone with a nice 400E with high miles. Lower control arms ($300 bucks a side just for the parts), and all four calipers are new, less than 1,000 miles since installation. This car runs and drives, great tunes, cold A/C, but I'd be a bit nervous driving it with the current subframe, but others may not be so picky. The engine has 55k miles on it, and it was cost MB around $18,000 when installed (valve keeper in oil pan from factory locked up the oil pump), as explained on receipts. The MB overhauled transmission has 72K miles on it. The winner of the auction will submit a $500.00 PayPal deposit within 48 hours of auction end, balance upon pickup of car. The car will not be released until funds clear. Shipping and delivery of the car are the buyer's responsibility. I've tried to describe this car as accurately as I can. I'm not a dealer, just a car guy, and I want the buyer to be satisfied with their purchase. Please ask questions, come see the car, or request specific pictures of areas you wish to see in detail. I'll be as upfront and honest as I can, and I'll expect the same from you as well. If you buy this car, and feel I've misrepresented it, you are off the hook, no deposit loss. Bid early and bid often, it's the Chicago way! On Jul-03-11 at 15:20:29 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: Car does not have seat heaters. Got it confused with my other two W124 cars......
