Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1976 Honda Goldwing GL1000 30,224 miles--clear title. I bought this at an estate auction awhile ago with the intent of keeping it....but I just got a great deal on a Vmax 1200 which seems to suit me better:) As far as this bike goes it looks great...not new....so please don't expect this 35 year old bike to be flawless. I basically brought this home and did a few basic things...I washed it with soap and water. I didn't polish it and armor all it up for the pictures...thats how it looks after a quick wash. I changed the plugs and checked the compression while I was at it....I got 130 to 140 in all cylinders.. I put fresh gas in it and it started right up...but it only runs good at 2000 plus rpms....it will die out if you let it idle...I turned up the idle to 2000 rpms and it's fine....drop it lower and its rough. I would say it needs a carb cleaning...at least the low speed jets anyway. I just don't have the time for that kind of project right now. This has also been converted to an electronic ignition I believe. This bike also came with tons of stuff: Vetter fairings Samsonite hard case luggage 2 service manuals 2 helmets with covers New foul weather gear kick starter fuel/oil filters brake pad sets Honda tool kit various fuses/pegs etc.. please look at the pics to see everything. One of the side luggage cases has about a 2 inch crack in the bottom. I also do not have the key for the side luggage release lock...although I can't for the life of me get the right side storage compartment on the fairing open...it might have the key in there. I have the key for the compartment but the lock seems to be frozen. I didn't want to break anything trying to open it. All the lights work...tires look ok...speedo-tach work...radio works..horn works--it's loud! Fuel gauge doesn't work...wire is broke off under seat to sending unit...temp gauge doesn't work...there is coolant in the radiator though. All in all this will be a great bike with a carb cleaning done to it and a couple small fixes. I tried to list all I could think of good and bad so you can make an informed choice. I'm no motorcycle guy by any means(boats and jet skis are my hobbies) but I know enough about engines in general. Please note--in some of the pictures I just stuck the side fairings up on the motorcycle to give you an idea of how they look--they were not attached...just resting on the bike. If you have any questions of things I may have left out feel free to email me. Please come check it out before you bid if you like. This bike has a Clear Title also.. I have had some question regarding the shifting of the bike and I will explain as best I can....I have taken the bike around my block but only got it to second gear by choice(my street speed limit is only 20mph) I was going 35+ just in first....no way I was gonna hit third. With the bike shut down I can shift the gears no problem...When I shift to first I had the rpms at 2200 or so to keep it running ...it did not shift to 1st smooth..it clanked into gear...I didn't do that again...I got the bike to idle at 850 or so for just a few seconds and it shifted to 1st nice and smooth. The same thing went for shifting out of first....it would not come out of first with the rpms at 2200 or so...it had to drop down to maybe 1000 or so.. I don't know if thats how it's supposed to be or not....The carbs def. need a cleaning though to get the low idle back...when I started it today to check the charging one of the exhaust pipes started blowing smoke from unburnt gas. It wasn't oil or coolant smoke.....definitely gas. Float bowl stuck open I believe...gas was dripping from the weep hole in the exhaust also. I just shut it down then so as not to wash the cylinders down with all that gas.
